Cycling warm up/down 12:00 [3] 4.4 km (22.0 kph) +50m
ahr:132 max:153 slept:7.0 shoes: Kona Jake the Snake '14

Running (Mixed) warm up/down 15:00 [3] 2.6 km (5:46 / km)
ahr:137 max:169 shoes: Inov-8 Terrafly 303 (dark)

Decent warm up, stretching and drills, then jog to start of leg 3.

Orienteering race 6:20 [5] *** 1.5 km (4:13 / km)
ahr:180 max:189 spiked:19/20c shoes: Inov-8 Terrafly 303 (dark)

Leg 3: Clean run, slightly hesitant in the maze first time round, just lacking any real speed and smacked my head off a tree branch leaving 17. Starting to feel my left hamstring tighten towards the end. 46s down.

Running (Mixed) warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.1 km (9:05 / km)
ahr:124 max:158 shoes: Inov-8 Terrafly 303 (dark)

Jog to start 2 & failed attempts to stretch out left hamstring.

Orienteering race 6:58 [5] *** 1.5 km (4:39 / km)
ahr:172 max:185 spiked:21/25c (injured) shoes: Inov-8 Terrafly 303 (dark)

Leg 2: Worst of the lot, missed the first tree out of the start so counted one too many for a mispunch on 1, then lost time on 2 with both the direction out of 1 and the number covering the tree. Hamstring really struggling by the time I'd got round the lake and into the maze where I was rushing and made a mess of 13 not keeping track of what number I was actually going to, then coming out of the maze in the wrong direction for 14. Cruised round the rest rather slowly. 30 second penalty and worst result of the day, 1:35 down.

Orienteering race 6:40 [4] ** 1.4 km (4:46 / km)
ahr:167 max:181 spiked:20/21c (injured) shoes: Inov-8 Terrafly 303 (dark)

Leg 1: Hamstring wasn't happy from the off, so jogged round, near impossible to make mistakes at that speed, just slight banana to last control. 52 seconds down.

Cycling warm up/down 23:00 [4] 10.2 km (26.6 kph) +60m
ahr:156 max:178 slept:7.5 shoes: Kona Jake the Snake '14

Decided I'd rather sleep than trek out to the Blue Mountain to ride Oaks in the heat, so eventually dragged myself out in the afternoon to get some road miles instead.
5 PM

Cycling 1:04:00 [5] 32.8 km (30.8 kph) +200m
ahr:163 max:180 shoes: Kona Jake the Snake '14

Decent workout, laps on Anzac Parade from Beauchamp Road to Bunnerong Road, couldn't quite remember the 10km lap I had last time I did this so they were a bit shorter (but less lights to go through).

8.4km x 3: 15:30, 15:30, 15:36

Bit of a headwind on the return legs.
6 PM

Swimming 10:00 [1]

Much needed cool down afterwards.

Running (Road) warm up/down 5:00 [3] 0.5 km (10:00 / km)
ahr:124 max:147 shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 255 (blue)

Had wanted to do more of a warm up, or at least stretching as I wasn't sure how long I might be able to run without things tightening up, but ran out of time.

Orienteering race 14:12 [5] **** 2.9 km (4:54 / km) +20m 4:44 / km

Cockatoo Island Sprint

Great fun this, one of my most anticipated events for some time and it lived up to expectations, plus I managed to get round it without anything tightening up so was running ok, just without feeling particularly quick (which probably helped with the nav).

Awesome start through the buildings (I hadn't actually given going through these much thought in my thinking of how good the area would be for orienteering), bit of a banana to 2 running past the wide entrance then lost a bit of time (15s) on the way to 4 trying to locate doors (hadn't read final details, but presumed given the symbol they were fine to open).

Pretty clean round the tip of the island, almost ran past the tunnel at 6 as I wasn't entirely sure what was going on there but had guessed it was something like that. Took the tunnel to 10 and caught Ecmo here, let him lead me through to 11 and then took off through 12. Fine through the next section to 20 though slow to 12 & 15, not pushing hard enough I think, and was slow coming back out of 19 to 20 the long way round over the rock losing a good 12 seconds.

On the long leg to 22 didn't quite pick the best micro-route to the steps, round the east side of the house but picked my route quickly and didn't lose too much time (maybe 5 seconds) and went in via the door south of the control, was quite quick through the warehouses but not quite enough to catch back the time Josh had made on me.

Could easily have been under 14 without mistakes, and maybe quicker on long legs too, but happy to have got round pain free and with pretty good nav in general. Not so hot on reading ahead and descriptions but had reasonable flow given no sprint racing for ages, think knowing the main layout of the island and the few places you can get up and down off the top level was an advantage for the longer legs for quick decision making.
