Orienteering 1:02:05 [4] *** 6.7 km (9:16 / km) +305m 7:33 / km
spiked:26/28c shoes: Icebug Spikes

Ridley Creek Fox Trot - Red course. A very well-designed course by HM3 which took full advantage of the park's white woods - I only had one tiny puncture. There were many short legs which gave the race a middle-distance feel but a nice long leg as well (16-17, I took the lefthand trail/road route). The control placement was particularly noteworthy. In almost all cases, you could see the feature before the control. Bravo to the course setter and vetter.

A great way to end the season. Thanks, Dasha, Team MacMullan, the Ahlswedes, Sandy, and anyone else who helped.

Note

And then the Ridley Riddle. Due to the absence of some notable national Trail-O luminaries, I felt compelled to uphold tradition by filing a protest on the first Model control.

I am making steady progress on my goal of becoming a Trail-O rock star. While I didn't quite own the course, I did manage a respectable 3rd place finish (missing only 1 control) and earned bragging rights for the forseeable future.

My training focus for the next few months will be rote rules memorization (or at least reading them).

Trail Run 1:12:00 [3] 8.25 mi (8:44 / mi)
shoes: Salomon XR Mission

Fair Hill NRMA, MD - Stopped for a run on the way home to DE. Big loop south of Rt. 273 starting at the fairgrounds. Did not cross the creek but as penance for yesterday's transgressions (slice of turkey, slice of pecan pie) told myself that any walking on the big climb up from the creek would be unacceptable. Managed to run all the way up (if slowly) and was rewarded with some nice views at the top just before sunset.

Road Run race 20:45 [5] 5.0 km (4:09 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-2000

New Oxford, PA - Turkey Trot 5K. A decent run but mile 2-3 (uphill into a biting wind) was pretty brutal. Finished 26th out of ~590, 3rd in M50-54 (winner in my age class was 19:35, 2nd was 20:35). Got off to a good start, avoiding the worst of the pack. Splits: 6:27 / 6:37 / 7:04 / 0:34. Very cold (upper 20's) and clear.
