orienteering 1:12:19 [3] 14.29 km (5:04 / km) +144m 4:49 / km

Sam went off to the gym to do a gympa session, but I was really not that excited about doing gympa today. Sam encouraged me to go out for a run, and so that's exactly what I did. I listened to an interview with John Cleese (looked up his eulogy for Graham Chapman after I came home) and tried to stay cheerful despite the continuation of the constant gloomy weather. A bit rainy and yet somehow cold enough that the muddy paths were covered in a slick layer of ice.

Felt really nice to stretch my legs and to run at a slightly harder pace.

orienteering 2:08:26 [3] 16.79 km (7:39 / km) +181m 7:15 / km

Club training, set by Lisa and Hilda. They had to do some last minute reworking of the course because they missed calling one of the hunting groups out in Siggefora until Friday. That hunting group was planning to be out, but said that we could use all the area to the west of the power lines.

Same parking as last week's UTH training, but running alone this week so at a much calmer speed. I have real problems with confidence when there are no flags or streamers though. Didn't trust the boulder for the first control, and found a different cliff for the second... still don't like the mapping of the center of the butterfly... the cliff looks different to me.

Clearly the most exciting part was seeing a moose! Whenever I see a moose, it means that I've done something terribly wrong, because all the other runners should have scared the moose out of the way. I got very far off track on the way to 6 and saw a moose in the hygge, it was big and majestic.

Quickroute Also kinda fun to click on the link at the top of the page and skip on over to 3D rerun/2D rerun and then collect the other GPS tracks from that day. TG, Johan, and Matt. Sadly, it was Matt's last training in Uppsala for a few months.

Note

Not enough people signed up for Innebandy today, so the three of us that showed up just passed the ball amongst ourselves and then took turns playing goalkeeper. Oddly variable with attendance, fluctuates between 4 and 16 showing up any given day :)

Afterwork, went to Churchill Arms for dinner. Took ages to get a seat, but good food and company made for a lovely evening.

Road run 16:57 [3] 2.63 km (6:27 / km) +14m 6:17 / km

Following a usual pattern, I was a bit late getting home from work and so instead of heading to the clubhouse I changed quickly and headed straight for the start of intervals at the castle. Should have taken another moment to change into contact lenses as the air was quite damp and fogged up my glasses the whole session.

Road run (Hill Intervals) 44:23 [5] 8.5 km (5:13 / km) +242m 4:34 / km

A fun session. A full crowd tonight with a rare sighting of a Henrik and Elin all the way from Västerås. The workout was 6 x climbing to the top of the castle. On the first session I started pretty far back in the pack and never really caught up with the lead group. There wasn't much in terms of re-grouping after each interval and so on the second interval I basically started on my own and pushed hard to catch up with a likely group of Pontus and Erik, Johannes, Olle, Kalle.... And then we stuck together for the rest of the intervals, well Pontus took a break after the 3rd.

Then, after collecting once more at the end of the 6 hills, we did 1 x 3mins on the flat road heading back up Norbyvägen towards home.

I felt better and better as the run went on and was very pleased with the session considering that it has been a lot of focus on the lab recently and less on consistent training. Still, I was sad to skip the Men's team meeting back at the clubhouse after the training... instead going home to make pie crust and snickerdoodle bars for Fika.

Note

I was responsible for returning the rental loudspeakers after the Gala, UTH and premiären, so after work I booked it over to KG and loaded up a van with the gear and dropped it off downtown. Sam and I took advantage of the trip and stopped at the Willy's on the way home to pick up a bit set of groceries.
