Skiing 3:00:00 [0]

More downhill skiing. No Garmin today, maybe Ed can supply the gpx track. Today I tagged along with Ed the whole time. I wanted to try some harder things and I got my wish, successfully going down some sections of Blacks and ducking through the trees twice on an easy glade run. Ed and Dean are much much better than I am at skiing, watching them was pretty inspiring.

I wore more clothing, so kept warmer and was happier. we also avoided most of the icy bits because there were fewer skier out.

Also, Rogue Angel was a really fun slope.

Skiing 2:31:24 [0] 15.97 mi (9:29 / mi) +2717m 6:12 / mi

Skiing in the morning. started with Lori, SGB, and Ian but my hands got incredibly cold (not working constantly enough) so I had to go get my warmer mittens. Warming up the hands resulted in a bout of pain that induce nausea.... I'm really a wimp when it comes to being cold. Skied on my own until lunch.

Skiing 2:43:54 [0] 14.99 mi (10:56 / mi) +2831m 6:53 / mi

Tagged along with Ed and Dean after lunch, doing harder runs than the morning. They would head down the blacks and I would meet them at the lifts after doing the blues :) At the end of the day met back up with the original crew to do some more greens and then happily packed it in to soak in the hot tub for 45 minutes, and help with dinner while watching Ratatouille. Lori and SGB organized a really fun trip.

Road run 39:00 [2] 4.2 mi (9:17 / mi) +83m 8:45 / mi

Rest Day, kinda. I had a doctor's appt in the morning and I decided it made sense to take the shuttle in for that. I got my Tetanus booster (I can't remember if I've gotten it in the past 10 years) and another set of blood drawn for a redo on my last CBC (lowish White Cell count last time).

Busy with science so skipped my lunch hour and my chance to run then. Made up for skipping the lunch by attending the Chinese New Year celebration where I ate roughly 50 million dumplings and won a 15 dollar iTunes card in the raffle.

Then a quick run home where I packed quickly and got picked up by Dean for the trip to Sunday River.

Road run 40:56 [2] 4.26 mi (9:37 / mi) +5m 9:34 / mi

Very hard to get going this morning. Sleep schedule still messed up from Monday, so that I woke up at 3 am and was wide awake. Did some computer stuff, some reading in bed and eventually got back to sleep. Then proceeded to snore loudly enough that Sam moved to the other room to sleep.

Snow was deep and I wasn't getting traction... felt a lot better after the run than before.

Road run 16:02 [2] 1.31 mi (12:14 / mi)

zipping over to the track for CSU track session. I'm not a fan of trying to pass people walking slowly on the sidewalks. I'm just not patient enough.

Road run 33:47 intensity: (17:06 @2) + (16:41 @5) 5.4 km (6:15 / km)

Met Alexei, as a new recruit for CSU track session, before heading in to do some quick warmup and stretching. No SGB today so I ended up running the workout largely by myself and jogging the resting lap with the rest of the group. We did 800-1000-1200 followed by 4x600 all with 200 jogging rest. It was great fun, and although I felt very lethargic at the beginning of practice, being on the track pepped me up. Last lap I was pushing hard to stay in front of Tom.

2:31 - 3:10 - 3:47 - 1:50 - 1:49 - 1:48 - 1:46

Road run 41:33 [2] 4.49 mi (9:15 / mi) +70m 8:50 / mi

Didn't stick around to do the group cool down. Instead headed straight home. Still snowy and slippery.

Road run 34:28 [2] 4.22 mi (8:10 / mi) +5m 8:08 / mi

To work. Woke up very early this morning, oddly, and finally am caught up on checking my favorites. I think I should cull some, because it takes awhile to read them all.

did some crunches while watching the first 20 minutes of the State of the Union... an interactive video on the whitehouse.gov site.

Road run 1:05:46 [2] 6.04 mi (10:53 / mi) +46m 10:38 / mi

2 laps of the reservoir. I thought it would be nice to run there, but the snow was deep and strangely trodden. parts were okay, but after two laps I was fed up with the stumbling steps where there was uneven snow.

To work. A caffeine morning. A nice mug of tea will help a sleepy morning. Sam has some really good Vanilla flavored black tea from her travels last summer... and it is absolutely delicious. Especially good to drink cold right after getting back from a run.

Road run 24:03 [2] 1.84 mi (13:04 / mi) +3m 13:00 / mi

Getting up to Giovanni and Katia's place. Was a bit more prepared tonight and didn't get stuck on the bridge.

orienteering 46:50 [4] 6.31 mi (7:25 / mi) +39m 7:17 / mi

Really fun training with CSU at Giovanni and Katia's, set by Giovanni. We had maps with 3 loops. The loops were very similar but with many different forkings. Each runner did all the legs, but not necessarily in the same order. It was great fun to run and see so many people. Started out with Giacomo and I think that Giovanni and SGB were ahead as well. My first loop had all the longest forks, I think, so I was catching up the whole rest of the race. I almost made it, but had a couple of little bobbles and a couple of places stuck waiting for traffic. Giovanni won the training and then Giacomo was next. But I wasn't more than a minute behind.

Also present were SGB/Presto, Ian, Katia, Magnus, Caroline, Brendan, and then Lori for dinner. A very successful training and a good crowd to share an awesome pizza dinner with.

Also Caroline was very nice and drove me home. Woot woot.

Road run 34:04 [2] 4.21 mi (8:06 / mi) +5m 8:04 / mi

Bitterly bitterly cold. Ran to work, even with two buffs to cover various exposed face bits, I was unhappy. I need to learn to grow my beard right up to my eye sockets.
6 PM

Road run 25:25 [2] 2.96 mi (8:35 / mi) +4m 8:33 / mi

Running just a little late ( like always) heading over to the A-meet planning at Giovanni and Katia's. They've switched which side of the BU bridge has a sidewalk (perhaps awhile ago, but I hadn't noticed until tonight, when I made it halfway over only to get stuck).

I'll be taking a stab at finding good sponsors for the race (along with a few other more typical a-meet responsibilities). I am contacting various companies in the Boston area to see if they are interested. If any of the readers have a favorite local company, you should let me know. I will call them and awkwardly explain what orienteering is and see if they want to give us something in return for space on the map/website/bib numbers/ meet notes/ t shirts/ whatever.
