Note

Inadvertent rest day. I got caught up reading a book and by the time I had finished it, it was time to go grocery shopping and then head over to Casa Luis for dinner and games. Dinner and games has sort of been the theme to this past week :)

Road run 39:00 [3] 5.0 mi (7:48 / mi)

Went for a run around the reservoir in the snow. I took Sam's suggestion to cut through Hammond Pond park on the way over, although it feels strange to go a different way from the way I run to work. The snow was really fun to run in, as it was mostly just fluffy and pretty and wasn't heavy or slippery.

orienteering 30:00 [3] 2.5 km (12:00 / km)

Happy 2010!

How lovely to sleep in and then get out in the woods to start the year off right!

I trailed Sam around in Hammond Pond as we picked up the night-o controls from earlier this week. As we ran past an area I had used for a control location another time (also printed on her map), she pointed out that I had hung it in the wrong spot. oops :)

We also talked about the best way to pick your way through thick woods. Sam zigs and zags a lot more than I do. I tend to plow through stuff, and although my style is perhaps a bit extreme, I was trying to convince Sam that she should not be so timorous when confronted with a patch of blueberry.

When deciding how to traverse a section of woods I try to only focus on the branches thick enough to impede progress.
