orienteering 1:20:05 [3] 8.0 mi (10:01 / mi)

Day Two. Met Lori and Berman's at 8:15 at Bear Hill. distributed the epunching gear from my car and went out to set some flags and water in the south end of the map. Came back and helped out at the start/finish a little bit. It was cool to see so many people at both events.

after things were clicking along I went out on the Blue. Course was really fun, I had some mistakes, but the biggest was on Control 4. I came in off the stone wall and got way too far along the hillside, I eventually got to the flag and noticed that the code was wrong! yikes. I didn't know how to fix it, because It was supposed to be 106 but read 105. 105 wasn't on my map so I couldn't just go and swap. Luckily I ran into Alex on the next control and she explained where the errant control was, and I took a break from my course to go and swap the velcro tags on the stands. that took me about 14 minutes and then I went on with my course.

After the meet was all over we again split up the flags, I went south and grabbed the far set and everything was cool. Second day down :) I think we're ready for another A-meet. How much harder could it be?

It was cool to see Dan Walker again. Hope that he comes fully back into the fold. If Daddy-o keeps making the drive down to hang out with his Ski Coach we might get lucky more often!

Note

Things I like... Kinko's online printing service! Favorable forecast for tomorrow. The people helping me organize the CSU Middle Distance race [4.9k, 165 meters of climb, 21 controls].

orienteering 30:00 [3]

awesome day, glad the meet went well. I think I, and all of us in Boston orienteering, need to advertise better. We got 38ish starts but on such a perfect day we could have had a 100! met Lori and Ian just after 8 at the sheepfold, then I went over to Boojum to set the start/finish and hang out with the Bermans as they did all the work of running a meet.

Didn't ever run my whole course, There were a lot of controls I never visited once. After it was all over, Ian, Sam and I split the flag and cleaned up. Phew one down, one to go.

biking 35:00 [3] 8.0 mi (4:22 / mi)

biking to and from work. Left really early to get out to Boojum and set flags for my local meet.

orienteering 50:00 [3]

not really sure of distance or time for this one. Alex and Sam and Jeff helped me out immensely. I took a set of flags out to the south section of the woods. and hung some. I made a few last minute changes when the control locations were neck deep in green briar (should have changed a few more too actually) and got back to the parking lot last after it had started to get quite dark.

Road run 55:50 [3] 7.4 mi (7:33 / mi)

Another gorgeous day, another fun run to work. Wore my garmin today to really get an accurate time and distance for the route. Time is accurate, I stopped the watch at all the lights, but the distance was a bit short because I didn't wait for satellites as I headed out the door.

Road run 57:23 [3] 7.4 mi (7:45 / mi)

on the way home I waited until the satellites had done their thing, so I can be confident that 7.4 miles is the right distance for 2 lap days (almost 7.5 which is a tempting number, it would be nice to have 15 miles today).

need to do something about the excessive chafing on my legs. If I let my leg hair grow out sufficiently and then go for a long run I get a thigh burn. After a couple of days the hair is gone and so the rubbing is less severe and I don't have a problem.

Road run 58:00 [3] 7.4 mi (7:50 / mi)

Up and at 'em pretty early... I think this morning exercise thing may work out in the long run... I just need to go to bed at the same time as Sam every night.

added 2 laps and still got to work before anyone else. I started setting up the days experiments before changing out of my running things.... but then one of my co-workers declared that I stunk.... so I had to change. She had a point.

Road run 56:00 [3] 7.4 mi (7:34 / mi)

Feeling pretty excellent on the run home, especially after getting to the reservoir. It's pretty lonely out there now that it's cold and dark. Sam wouldn't mind so much anymore. Saw a kid that looked exactly like Ben Parson, but I doubt his XC club would be in Brookline on a Tuesday night.

biking 35:00 [3] 8.0 mi (4:22 / mi)

biking to and from work. Ridiculously early (thanks to daylight savings getting to work by 7am was even possible). Sad to miss the CSU street training tonight... sounds like it was pretty fun.

Got some feedback on my courses for Saturday's CSU event. I'm impressed by people that can course set... I find it so hard. But if someone else fixes my course I can say "man, why didn't I think of that".
