Note

At home with the Smith Clan. Mom chafed at how long it took for the young 'uns to get out of bed in the morning but she was much happier when we finally got out on the trail to go for a nice hike. We went to Treman park and hiked around in the woods.

I decided that the Smith Family motto should be "Simple Minds Simple Pleasures, except in Latin" ( that would be great if I could get that whole thing translated into Latin including the except in Latin part... Claire? Will? )

I got a passable shot of the family and stole the other image off the interweb

Note

No exercise today. went on an airport run and then work and then home to host a dinner for Kalmia, Rob and their friend Norah. Food was yummy. Lyn's Raspberry Kiwi Salad was a huge success and thus the recipe was passed to yet another convert.

biking 55:00 [3] 14.0 mi (3:56 / mi)

To and from work. ( short little stop at Hammond Pond to drop off some streamers) After work biked to Dedham to get Sam's car back from the shop (aka Jeff) in preparation for picking up my sister and brother-in-law from the airport. Sadly their flight was canceled and by the time we figured that out it was already too late for me to change plans and attend the CSU weekly training up at Prospect Hill.

The cancellation became an opportunity...

Track 26:00 [3] 2.5 mi (10:24 / mi)

... and the opportunity became a reality.

have wanted to do more speed work on the track. talking to Jeff before going over to the track helped me realize that my desire to do 400 intervals is a bit of a counter-productive thing. 400 reps at the speeds I want to run them are likely not the ideal way to train speed ( this is relying heavily on Daniels of course).

The psychological factors can't be avoided though, and I really wanted to do this workout! It makes me feel fast, and confidence can't be overvalued.

goal was 10x400 with 200 jogging rest in between. my initial hope was 70 seconds for the pace, Jeff thought that might be too fast and my legs thought so too.

a hot evening and not a great surface on the dedham highschool track, a lot of track joggers though they mostly stayed out of my way. Wore my fast shoes because feeling fast is nice. Calves really really tight I assume still from last Thursday. First 4 felt easy, next 3 felt really hard, last 3 were just regular hard feeling. Kept everything at about 72 pace. Next time I want to try some all out 400s with full recovery, just to see what I'm capable of. Rest at the end got a little out of control I guess, but I am really happy with the workout. Sad to miss hills with the CSU crew but great to finally get out on the track again.

biking 35:00 [3] 8.0 mi (4:22 / mi)

Biking to and from work. Again stuck at work so had to cancel my planned trip to Dedham tonight. Stopped at the store on the way home to grab some supplies for preparing for the arrival of the 1992 US Champ in F12 and her husband (a man of no orienteering distinction :))

biking 55:00 [3] 12.5 mi (4:24 / mi)

biking around. to and from work and also across the river to collect samples and back. was worried about getting to work on time because I don't like looking like a slacker to my co-workers. They all work really hard, so I don't want to let them down. But when I got there I was the first one in! I regret leaving in such a hurry now, I could have spent more time on Skype with Sam in the morning and no one would have suspected :)

Note

No Hills today. got stuck at work doing organizational stuff and then had to rush home for dinner with friends. Don't feel too guilty about giving the hills a miss today because I know this is going to be a tough week, not physically, but busy with all sorts of other scheduling. Only a couple of weeks until WOC... this is not the time to push myself and get sick.
