Note

Another excellent day with friends. lots of time hanging out but not space for a run by myself. tossed a frisbee around in Danehy park a bit. The park is a gorgeous green space but probably not suitable for even a little orienteering course as it's almost all playing fields.

Note

Happy 4th of July! spent the day with friends, eventually camping out by the Charles to see the gorgeous fireworks (with really hideous music selection piped through the speakers. Neil Diamond gave a creepy almost spoken word rendition of Sweet Caroline.)

Road run 1:48:22 [3] 14.0 mi (7:44 / mi)

Really really nice run through Newton. headed up and did a loop of the chestnut hill reservoir and then headed west on Comm Ave until Auburndale and the Lyons park ( I call it the Nate Lyons park in my head) and then turned around to run home. My clever plan had me stopping past the newton library on the way home to get some water... but the library is closed for the Holiday weekend and so I just ran home. Started to get pretty tired by the end but it was such a nice day and felt great. Was moving really well for the first hour and then just settled in for the jaunt home. my shirt got completely sweat logged at about 48 minutes to the point where there was no longer a spot dry enough to use to wipe my brow or my glasses. at about 70 minutes this wet shirt started chafing on the nipples so I took it off, balled it up and thought of it as ARDF practice for running with a receiver in my hand :)

HR strap worked just perfectly today. Not sure why it seems to hate me some days and work like a charm on others. AVG HR 163 MAX HR 173.

biking 35:00 [3] 8.0 mi (4:22 / mi)

Biking to and from work. On the way to work I was just immersed in an intense thunderstorm. Just soaked. Downside of the torrent was that my cell phone got too wet and just up and died.

My legs feel more rested than earlier this week and I don't have to go to work tomorrow. Sweet.

biking 35:00 [3] 8.0 mi (4:22 / mi)

To and from work. There was a lab get together after work and so as soon as I got home I turned around and drove back to work to pick up some people and head to the party. Food was fantastic! made sure to try some of everything. really sad that I missed WOC in Japan because Japanese food is extremely tasty.

biking 50:00 [3] 11.5 mi (4:21 / mi)

Biking to work, then from work down to the CSU training at Peter's Hill and then finally home. The leg from the arboretum home only took 12 minutes... which is nice because it means that I should probably be able to bike to the arboretum for hill workouts or running whenever.

meant to get to the training early enough to set out streamers but got stuck at work an hour later than intended and so I was actually a little late to my own training. Happy Birthday Mark!

orienteering 21:25 [3] 3.43 km (6:15 / km)

Hill specific training for CSU training. Good attendance , Pia, Mark, Audun, Lori, Ian, Sanne, Presto, Brendan. It was perhaps a bit cruel to start with a leg straight up the hill and the grass was brutal for running up or down. Almost tripped on the tangled matted mass a score of times.

didn't feel like I was moving all that well, but much better than yesterday so I'll take it :)

biking 40:00 [3] 8.0 mi (5:00 / mi)

biking to and from work. still a bit blah out this morning. road was damp enough that I was getting dirt and spray spat up from the wheels. biking home with a full pack because I managed to pick up a bunch of groceries at lunch time ( avocados, tomatoes, feta, pepitas, salad dressing, lettuce) and needed to bring them home so I could have a round two of the salad for dinner.

Road run 40:00 [3] 4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

okay, this really didn't go well. Monday is hills day, but wow was my body not at all interested. felt good earlier in the day but at 5:30 when I headed out the door I was feeling sleepy and sore. lots of tight muscles. last week the hills went pretty well, even though I was running fairly slowly, because I knew that I should be a bit tried after Mt. Greylock. Today, because I didn't have any excuse, running wasn't so great. to compound things, my Garmin ran out of batteries after only one rep.
I did 4, and then decided that my body was trying to tell me to take a little break.

2:03 on the first then I estimate
2:08
2:15
2:20

very sore very tired when running the hills... but I feel fine when I'm just sitting or standing at work. well. I think that I need to get some recovery in. I'm not really doing so much training but I think it's still a step up from, say, March. I haven't really had a day where I haven't done anything at all in awhile, and I'd rather be fresh for the CSU training camp in two weeks and the WCOC training camp in three weeks than simply run these workouts slower and slower each week.
