Innebandy 45:00 [5]

A high tempo game of Innebandy with the Thursday group. We played 4v4 with 2 substitutes on each team. A lot of hustle and a lot of heart on our team.... but much more talent on the other team :) we got crushed.

I still get a happy feeling whenever I am able to fluster an opponent into making a mistake, especially when I can then capitalize and score. It never happens with Linné people, but happens quite a lot with the science crew.

orienteering 1:17:15 [4] 10.94 km (7:03 / km) +66m 6:51 / km

Orienteering Intervals at Hammarskog. This was the same parking area as our first club training after moving to Uppsala.

flashback

Tonight was fun. We were in a hurry to finish the training before the sun sank too far and it got really dark (well Mats decided to do the training later in prep for a Tiomila night leg). I started a bit behind the crowd. caught up and ran with the women on the first interval, then pushed ahead. Ran a bit with Anders H and Emil Å. Last interval was by myself, but it was getting dark. I missed the streamer on the first control and then managed to truly shank the end of the loop.

Terrain was a bit scratchy and rocky.

Trail run 9:54 [3] 1.74 km (5:42 / km) +26m 5:18 / km

Heading over to KG with Rassmus and Lisa. Happy Birthday Rassmus! to meet up for intervals. Then out to stadsskogen for the workout.

Trail run 47:44 [5] 8.79 km (5:26 / km) +42m 5:18 / km

2x(4'-2' rest);10x(40"/20");2x(4'-2'rest).

It's light out so late now that we have gone back to summer time. I was very sleepy before and after running tonight, but during the workout, everything was great :)

Good group, and I was able to push pretty hard. Not quite as fast as I'd like, but moving in the right direction. Rebecka Olsson was really strong tonight, and I definitely ran harder in order to stay ahead of her.

Well, the 72 hour Easter extravaganza ended. Marc drove me back to the train station, and the travel went exceedingly smoothly. (passport completely unnecessary this trip).left the apartment at 7:05, train to Zurich, shopping for chocolate there, then took off in Zurich at 10:40, and got off the 801 bus in Uppsala at 15:01 connecting through Berlin.

Weather was really calling for a nice run. I set off to check if the bike shop was open on Easter monday (nope) and from there just wandered whichever way seemed most interesting and appealing. Not moving too fast, legs feeling the Swiss hills, and listening to various podcast programs.

Sushi dinner with Sam when she got back from her own long travel day. Now she is packing for a training camp week. Busy lady.

Trail run 2:00:00 [3] 18.0 km (6:40 / km)

A lovely Easter run with the ladies. Sandra lead the way, and carried the conversation for the first hour uphill. Then Sam took over and carried the conversation down the hill again. I contributed nothing but charm :) It was a great day :)

The day started with an Easter basket hunt in the Lauenstein apartment, and then continued with an Easter basket hunt in Nona and Nono's apartment. With so many fun Easter chocolate hunting traditions, and meals we have been eating very well here in Switzerland :)

orienteering 40:36 [5] 6.0 km (6:46 / km) +276m 5:30 / km

Easter Relay race near Bern in Switzerland. I ran with Sandra, Sam and Marc as an unofficial team. The weather and location were amazing. Simone was the course setter and relay photographer as well :) We ran with SI Air and Sandra paid for our entries and cakes(thanks Sandra) so I can't really imagine a better event.

Started out chasing after clubmate Michael Dubach, but I was fooled on the short downhill leg to 2, didn't interpret the green right and found the flag on the other forking, but wasn't able to figure out where it was on the map to properly relocate and hit my own checkpoint. ran a loop or two in there, before correcting. Rest of the relay went much better. A mistake on 17 ( in the green) and 19 (in the green).

Had no real sense for how far behind the lead I changed over, but the legs certainly know the difference between flat Uppsala and hilly Switzerland.

Road run 1:12:00 intensity: (42:00 @3) + (30:00 @5) 16.0 km (4:30 / km)

Marc suggested 3 x 10 minutes hard running on the way back home after the orienteering. Beautiful weather, and super fun and dynamic to weave through the crowds down by the lake.

Marc did a lot of running back to meet me during the hard sections. Life is good, running in the sun is good, training hard is fun.

Trail run 25:01 [3] 2.61 km (9:35 / km) +35m 8:59 / km

Not a lot of time this morning to get ready and go down to the station. Ran to work, and back, then it was a long day of travel to Marc and Sandra's place. Seeing Marc waiting at the train station alone was worth the trip :)

Innebandy 40:00 [4]

A very nice game of Innebandy. High tempo the whole way, and few enough players that we could use the whole gym. Right ankle feeling a bit unhappy after rolling it on Wednesday.

a 1.4kg sweat loss today. That's a sign of a good game :)

Note

Tickets bought. I am going to join the Neuchâtel party for Easter. Very much looking forward to it!

orienteering 1:16:55 [5]

Running behind schedule, so just a tad late for orienteering tonight. Onsdagsnatt put on by Pontus and Rebecka. The course started on the Morga map, the rockiest slashiest woods we have near us (well, except for Jumkil, and everyone hates Jumkil). then crossed over to Lunsen before returning along the hillside by the river.

Parked at Sunnersta gropen and jogged down to the start. I forgot my Garmin, so no messy quickroute to show. I started in the chasing pack 1 minute behind the first group, made a big mistake on the first control but then settled into things nicely. Ran with Ken Peeters (BEL) for the middle section and by the end PoJo caught up and passed me as I really screwed up the last control.

Fun. But cold, wet, (should have worn wet socks) and rolled an ankle on the trail at one point. Mood is still pretty happy, so easy to shake off the trivialities and focus on the fact that orienteering in Lunsen with friends is excellent :)

Tuesday Mar 22, 2016 #

Note

Unintended rest day. A productive day, but last minute a spot opened up to get the club minibus inspected in the morning, so everything in my schedule got shifted. Neither time nor energy to go running in the evening, once I had mostly gotten caught up with everything.

I got into bed and feel asleep before Sam tonight. No better sign that I could use the rest :)

Strength 40:00 [3]

Rockgympa. One of the programs from last year, tough session, but good music. Amelie wasn't such a big fan this time and she required lots of attention from Elisa and Johan to stay happy.

I invited a friend from work to gympa tonight. He did very well, and I hope that he will return in the future. It's a good way to meet people (and a good way to get introduced to real orienteering too).

I noticed at least one person (team France, Cécile Foltzer) wearing mismatched socks. Presumably in recognition of Downs Syndrome day (trisomy 21 aka 3/21).
7 PM

Innebandy 40:00 [3]

Only 6 stayed for innebandy this evening, so constant playing and good and tired by the end. Also, when the next group came in 5 minutes early tonight (like normal) we continued playing until the next goal, instead of meekly vacating the gym. We are there until 8 :) it's good to assert ourselves when needed.

orienteering 1:08:47 [5] 9.54 km (7:12 / km) +156m 6:40 / km

First relay of the year. Måsen is early enough that sometimes the race is canceled because of too much snow. This year the weather was pleasantly mild and much better than forecasted. Sunny and a handful of degrees, until near the end of the afternoon.

I ran leg 4 on team 5. I was pretty excited to be racing! I was pleased with my performance except for one big mistake near the beginning (followed by a bonus bobble as I proceeded to miss the following control due to coursing adrenaline).

Still some room for improvement, but I started well (first 3 flags) and settled in well after my mistakes. Fitness is still the thing that needs the most work right now.

Near the middle I was in the forest with a guy from Tisaren and at the end I was vying with the last leg runner from Tullinge's 1st team. I was soundly out-kicked, but I did the navigation in the last loop, so I feel okay. Otherwise, mostly alone. Our team was 33rd in the end, a few seconds would have been worth a couple of places. 25th overall would have been a worthy dream :)

Saw some unexpected NA friends, Magnus PI and Andrea live in Nyköping now, and Jonas Kjäll is in Stockholm still. Magnus was on the same forking as me, and beat me by nearly 3 minutes.

Currently waiting for Tuve to return my map, but will quickroute when it returns.

Satisfied today with everything. A few mistakes that were avoidable, especially holding my map upside down and folded for leaving control 8 (the numeral 8 is right-side up in one too many orientations) and a couple of places where technique is rusty and I had difficulty interpreting the map.

Did a better job of letting my orienteering "steer" my running today.

Also, noteworthy, the run to the start was the most beautiful I have experienced in awhile. Amazing views of the archipelago. Better weather than predicted. Great club feeling today. It's gonna be a great season for Linné.

Trail run 43:34 [3] 5.83 km (7:28 / km) +29m 7:18 / km

Running with Sam after a long week! two loops in Stadsskogen. I was planning on joining Sam for a run, my co-workers for a beer, and David and Lovisa for a game. Ran out of time (unsurprisingly) so ended up being run and game.

Lovisa is dealing with a slow leak of CSF from somewhere in her brain-spinal column. A problem which leads to immense pain unless she remains lying down. The situation is slowly improving but still not ideal. David also had surgery to remove the screw from his foot, so he also isn't really mobile. So I went to go hang out with the cripples :) (their word, not mine) We played a round of Puerto Rico and I got trounced. Great to make time to play games again.

Road run 1:00:00 [3]

I still have a sore throat, but wanted to go out and celebrate with a little running. Joined up with the club and ran a loop at a calm and comfortable pace with Cat T and Viktor. The workout group was doing 7k at full speed, but our thing was nice too :)

Afterward ran back to bloden with Erik and Ulrika. Starting to really feel like spring is here. And this weekend will be the first racing! whoo hoo!

Strength (Rockgympa) 44:00 [3]

Rockgympa, one of the longer and harder programs tonight. In a bit of a rush, delayed getting to the gym because of rearranging schedules at work. Luckily only about a minute late, getting the stereo up and the music started. Johan showed up at about the same time (he was at a work meeting too) so we actually got to lead the program together. Nice to have some social exercise time on a day like today.

Getting sick... I can feel it at the back of my throat.

Road run 1:04:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:20 / km)

Busy and productive morning while Sam and the club were out at training. Wanted to go for a run, but it got pushed until later in the day. Started out with the front end of Gottsunda Runden then to get some more time, turned out and ran back past the BMC.

Glad that I got a chance to run at the end of the day.

Road run 1:15:00 [3] 13.8 km (5:26 / km)

Awesome day. Great sunny weather. Running in whichever direction the feeling took me, that meant down into Hågadalen for a bit, before the trail started to feel to wet and icy, out at the Lurbo bridge and then along the lake, and back up past lille sunnersta.

Feels nice to do this a bit more regularly now. Into Stockholm for the evening for a lovely dinner with friends. Got to drive a fancy French car back to Uppsala at the end of the evening.

Friday Mar 11, 2016 #

Note

Didn't prioritize getting out and training today. Long day at work followed by a dissertation party in town afterward. We had a great evening, and it is lovely to see all the science people in one place having so much fun. I snuck out when the Nation closed at 1pm and the party moved on to the next location.
