QOC Patapsco Avalon - Green

A bit of a long and climby one to start out the year. Climbs made it clear that I need to get out more and shed a little of the weight that's crept on since my job became more sedentary in August.

It started snowing lightly as soon as I began the walk to start, and continued the entire time, ending almost immediately after I finished. Just my luck. Walking to start I was worried about being cold and jogged a little to warm up. In the woods I was dressed just right. Snow made just a light coating on ground, rocks, and logs, but didn't seem to stick to trails. Just annoying.

Back started to hurt, and did for about first 3-4 controls, then felt better.

Aimed off left going to 4 and still let some guy draw me to the left even further upon reaching the trail. The trail bends seemed to confirm this but must have been less subtle in terrain than on map. It only took a second for me to go back and go in right where I had landed on the trail to start with, which was correct after all.

Left along stream/through field to corner and then over crossing the trails to 5. Careful in this steep area after experience of having to right someone from upside down on slope last time here. Slopes were especially slippery with wet ground plus snow.

A bit of hesitation at 6 as I wasn't paying enough attention to what's in the circle and started poking around at the rocks too far to the right.

Must have changed my mind on route to 7 three times as I went along, but happy with what I ended up using. SW on trail out of 6, Then W along the stream that splits at rocks. Up to the trail junction N of field and then NW to stream, right up the branch that curves to the ditch. This was right near very cool ruin from last time I was here.

9 was the biggest error of the day. I lost track of where I was in all the spurs and reentrants, also ending up higher than I thought. I was in the right reentrant but got drawn south to where I saw a flag on a different rock, not mine. Still had trouble figuring out where I was exactly, but headed down toward the stream and then saw the correct bag.

The rest of this was much easier/flatter which was nice for the end. Worst climb of the day up out of the stream between 10 and 11. I was tired.
