DVOA Foxchaser II - Ridley Creek State Park - Green Y (F-Green)

Tried to get up to start early so I could prestart (to help at other finish later) but first the bus took forever to leave. Then the vetters weren't back. Ended up leaving long after my assigned 9:05 time, very close to 9:30, when Francis and I decided to just go as the normal starters would be beginning soon. We discovered the Green course maps were swapped at the start, got that sorted, and then I was off.

The woods were beautiful but sooooo much white everywhere at the beginning of the day. Being first out, most areas had no prints or one set (probably vetter) and some trails were entirely virgin. I was knocking snow off of everything and found it hard to move fast with the exception of a few trails and the roads. I was not very clean, often missing slightly one way or the other (on at least 1, 4, 8, and 15 - completely botching 15 as I often do near the end when brain is tired and I can hear the people at the finish hollering. Went to wrong bag first.) Also took longer routes around when it was probably not always necessary, dreading getting caught up in the thorny stuff. Did not see anyone, except 2 hikers, until the last few controls. By the end, the snow was getting pretty mushy and more slippery.

The course was fun, maybe too easy at some parts, although some of that was the placement controls to get us under the road crossing. But with the extra physical load from the snow I didn't mind that so much today.

Lost my clue sheet holder somewhere between 11 &12, didn't see it in the 20 or so yards behind me, so didn't waste time looking. When almost everyone was finished it hadn't turned up, so I got another from Gale. I guess if you're going to lose stuff it's good to do so on a day with vendors.

Legs are pretty dead but I don't think they are as bad as after the NJ event, when I had very tight and painful calves for about 3 days. We will see in the morning...

DVOA Hibernia - Green

Only major error at 7, when I went way too far around the trail and was actually down to the SW across the small trail (which I must have crossed and not noticed, though I did see it on the way back.) Then, although I knew I was wrong, I couldn't make sense of the river and where North was located and actually started going even farther right... until I could see the rough open with picnic tables in it. Doh! And I should be very familiar with this area too.

Pretty dead on to everything else, and was TGL at least when I left the park, despite the error.
