OCIN Flying Pig XX Classic - Miami Whitewater Forest - Green A Course 9 (F35+)

I was in great map contact the majority of the time and felt really good with controls coming up where I expected them. I was too far right coming up from 2 and misread the trail junction for a second, then saw the pond and figured out that I had to go along the stream to 3, then got a bit too high and saw the other depressions. Also took a minute to see 5 in that bit of washboardy terrain.

Frightening moment of the day occurred at 9. I had just dropped down into the control and was hearing a tree crack as it swayed in the wind. The cracks kept getting louder, in a way I didn't like, so I punched and got the heck out of dodge. As I left the control I could tell a tree was definitely about to fall, just not which one. I was running and looking back over my shoulder like in some kind of horror movie, trying to judge whether I'd be far enough away. The full size tree crashed down, in my direction, luckily not able to reach me. It made a huge cloud of dust and a puff of wind that smelled like rotten wood. Some guy was also approaching the control at the time and when he caught me asked if I'd seen it fall. Um... yeah. Too close for comfort.

Purposely went around to the right to 11 to avoid green in the much greener East side of the road. Long leg to 14 actually pretty trivial... just passed back close to start and followed trail/ridge top almost duplicating my routes from S-2.

Mostly slowed down by climb, especially from 15-finish where there was really no choice but to go up and down several large hills.

In the evening we went out to dinner in Harrison, then returned to find our hotel had no power, which was another adventure. Many people were leaving, but luckily it came back on around 9:30 or so. (We were already in bed because it was pitch black and cold and what else are you going to do.)
