12 PM

Running warm up/down 10 [2] 1.5 km (7 / km)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2013

To the start, it was a bit delayed so managed to fit in some drills too.

Orienteering race 59:06 [5] 11.3 km (5:14 / km) +30m 5:10 / km
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2013

London City Race, Men Vet (35+)

A bit scrappy in places and short of pace in the first half where there were a number of longer/simpler legs with (in a parallel universe) scope to stride out.

Didn't get all the best routes later on with the underpasses by the canals etc, but relatively good through that section.

Winner was 52:37 when I left.

Running warm up/down 5:00 [2] 0.75 km (6:40 / km)

Mostly warmed up by walking to the event.

Orienteering race 25:36 [5] 4.1 km (6:15 / km) +25m 6:04 / km
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2013

Imperial College night sprint.
Course 2 (Men 35+ and Women Elite)
14th of 79, five (!) mins behind Alice Leake....

Fun race in the multi-level stuff, with loops in park at beginning and end. Glad I didn't believe the chat that "you might want a torch to read the map", I had a small torch and was wishing for a better one at times.

A couple of mistakes of a minute or more, totally misunderstood the map to #6 for quite a while, didn't understand there was an underpass in the west so didn't use it to #8 and then got confused and went to #9 first anyway! Similarly didn't understand there was a western underpass on the long leg to 10 which cost time as well.

Fun but not to be taken too seriously :)

Orienteering 53:00 [1] 5.2 km (10:12 / km) +80m 9:28 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon Aug 2015

FVO tech training at BarrWood.
Not feeling lively enough to bash down the bracken with any enthusiasm. And incompetent enough with the nav that I kept having to stand around. On the other hand, good turnout plus a curry afterwards :)

Road biking 1:01:00 [3] 29.5 km (2:04 / km) +82m 2:02 / km

Pilates 30:00 [1]

The Owner of the Scales had biked there so we dodged the weigh-in for another week....

Circuits 30:00 [2]

No run this week, straight to cinema night to see Trance (Danny Boyle film) - confusing!

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon Aug 2015

Warm up to the start.
Hip flexor seemed absolutely fine again this morning.
Lucky to get away with it after not stopping in the sprint race.

Orienteering race 1:01:16 [5] 9.18 km (6:40 / km) +75m 6:25 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon Aug 2015

Highland Wolf SOL, Loch Vaa north

Warm sunny day and some of Britain's best terrain, a pleasure!
Running fairly strongly but not with the power or speed to race rather than run - also threw in a couple of mins in errors in total, but still horrified to be 10mins down on Jon Musgrave's winning time of 51mins! Martin did 55 and Charlie 58 with a slowdown at the end.

Not sure I can blame all the lack of speed on the biking. Some short sharp stuff and a few kilos to lose before the CSC final I think....
5 PM

Road biking 3:17:00 [3] 77.3 km (2:33 / km) +1055m 2:23 / km

After some relaxation in the hot tub and some lunch, eventually persuaded myself it was far too sunny not to go for a ride.

Aviemore - Boat of Garten - Nethy Bridge - back road east to A939 - Bridge of Brown - Tomintoul - the Lecht.
Then reverse back down to the turn off the A939, had to be collected there as there was no daylight left.

Hillier than expected en route to the Lecht, ascent not really too bad, just one steep ramp. Although the wind may have been behind me...

Three weeks to Etape Royale!
