Event: Stirling 10k

10 AM

Running race 40:32 [5] 10.0 km (4:03 / km) +52m 3:57 / km
shoes: Asics Hyperspeed

Stirling 10km. A princely 183rd place.

Wanted to see if I could run under 40mins but worried that my shape was so bad I may run over 41mins.......so in retrospect a time of 40.5mins was inevitable!

Started off at a good sub-40 pace and on 19:40 at halfway - much quicker than I could run 5km in at Broadwood a few weeks ago. Legs getting heavy though plus lost a bit of focus after the turn which didn't help. Managed to sort myself out to pick it up a bit again in the last km. Neck not too bad either and no worse at the end - more physio tomorrow.

Need to be able to run faster than this by the end of the year!

Running warm up/down 30:00 [2] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Brooks Ghost5 Aug 2012

Out and back along the first/last part of the course to warm up. Not feeling that lively - probably not helped by eating breakfast within two hours of race start.

Out to explore the inside of the meander with Ross, Fi, Will afterwards. Strangely not feeling too lively then either.

Orienteering 36:01 [3] 5.08 km (7:05 / km) +100m 6:27 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudroc 2012

FVO WEE, Minewoods

Neck increasingly bad today so secured an emergency physio appointment at 5.30pm. She loosened it off enough for me to decide to run.....except I needed to go home to get my (forgotten in morning) ticket for Danny Bhoy at 8pm at the MacRobert.

Made it to the event in time to start on the long course at 7.13pm, struggled a bit with the map early on (and couldn't believe how much the paths had been eroded by flood damage) and later on it was too dark in the wood to read map and run at the same time - opted for the keep running option which was not optimal for route choice and hence not for minimising time out there....although clearly fitness levels also not optimal for that....

Hasty departure to the MacRobert got me there after the lights had gone down but before the man (bhoy) himself made it on stage, phew. An hour and a half of hilarity ensued, well worth the rush to get there. And thanks to my supremely well organised friends Kate and Louise for producing food and water out of nowhere just when I needed them!

Running 41:12 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (21:12 @3) + (10:00 @4) 6.63 km (6:13 / km) +150m 5:35 / km

Straight from airport to uni, shoulder/neck has been sore for ages and killing me today. Maybe that was why I felt terrible and unrhythmical for the whole run. Half-hearted attempt at reps from part way up Logie Kirk road across towards BofA - so initially up, then levelling off, then back down steeply. Just 10x30s/30s. not too well warmed up eitherm although I did gradually get into it. But all in all not the most amazing session ever!

Then to the refurbished Meadowpark for a fine meal with Elle and MC - much better!

Running 40:12 [3] 7.28 km (5:31 / km)
shoes: Brooks Ghost5 Aug 2012

From hotel near Bray, took footpath over Thames and hoped to run out through Olympic rowing venue at Eton Dorney then back along Thames Path. Thames Path closed and diverted to other side of rowing course and venue itself still under post-Olympic surgery so not reopening to public until 2013 according to the man who wouldn't let me in. So ended up with an out-and-back trot through Dorney village to the common and back. London 2012 legacy in action.....
