Running race 56:00 [4] 11.23 km (4:59 / km) +260m 4:28 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudroc 2012

Comrie Hills Relay. 4 legs for teams of 5.
FVO team 2 with Jase, Trevor/Frances, Adam, then me on last leg.

Caught out by bizarre early timing of last leg mass start which hence included about half the field - I was over the other side of the field warming up which meant I missed the start by about a minute.
FVO team 1 (Rog, Fi/Elsie, Marcus. Ross) were long gone by then on their way to 5th place and the mixed team prize (plus prize for fastest last leg to Rosco).

The mass start mess meant a different race for me from the one I expected - chasing a pack and secure in the knowledge there was no-one behind me at all!

Set off at a good pace and passed twelve people by the road crossing and a thirteenth on the climb before the monument. And that was it - a biggish gap ahead and one behind as well - ran the second half without seeing anyone which made it harder to keep the pressure on.

We finished 16th of 32 teams (luckily with my extra minute making no difference!) - first team of all mass start teams and an overall top half position, very respectable :)

BBQ, juice, tea and cake at the finish, all included in the entry fee. A race to come back to!

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 2.5 km (8:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudroc 2012

Various bits of supporting and warmup. No warmdown. Likely to regret it.

Running 41:35 [3] 7.42 km (5:36 / km)
shoes: Brooks Ghost5 Aug 2012

Sore calves still and generally needing a jog to loosen off before tomorrow. This lethargic stiff shuffle hopefully will have helped.

Running 32:37 intensity: (17:37 @3) + (15:00 @4) 6.1 km (5:21 / km)
shoes: Brooks Ghost5 Aug 2012

Just time for a quick session - jog out towards Meiklewood House, 15x30s/30s, then jog home.
Pace on the reps gradually picked up from 3:45/km to 3:25/km as I warmed up.
More of this required.

Orienteering 38:25 [4] 6.25 km (6:09 / km) +150m 5:29 / km
shoes: Brooks Ghost4 Aug 2012

FVO evening event, Stirling Town
Another sluggish effort, not enough in my legs to be able to work really hard. Need to lose a couple of kg!

Fun if hilly course and pretty sure I didn't have all the best routes. Not too sure on some of them even now!

Running warm up/down 10:00 [1] 1.0 km (10:00 / km) +30m 8:42 / km
shoes: Brooks Ghost4 Aug 2012

En masse trot round collecting a few flags. Then food and fine elderflower ale in the Portcullis. Maybe make that three kg not two that I need to lose....

Orienteering 43:30 [3] 4.9 km (8:53 / km) +60m 8:22 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon 2011

Tinto evening event, Happendon Woods.

It may be true that slow-and-steady wins the race.
Although that may be a bit of a fable.
However I can confirm that slow-and-all-over-the-forest does not win the race.....

Despite extreme navigational incompetence early on (after Saturday's 1:3000, this felt more like 1:20000 than 1:10000), was relishing the proper Scottish terrain - some lovely wood and some rough tough bits too!

Thanks Rosco for telling me this event was on and persuading me it would be worth the trip - it was!

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.5 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon 2011

Along the road and back with Ross.
