Orienteering race 1:03:15 [4] 6.9 km (9:10 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

Scottish Relays at Strathmashie, second leg Men's Open for FVO third team running with Simon P and Ben.

Simon went through the spectator control on leg one in second which was a bit worrying! He took a bad route in the second loop though and was caught by the pack with Stuart and Ross in it, and 3rd-7th all handed over pretty much together.

Got #1 fine then crossed with Steve Nich setting off on his nice track run to his #2 as I headed into the felled area ready to bash through some green to mine. Very slow through it, bounced off the ride, lost 90s, never saw any of the others again and just steadily lost time to them throughout. Got a wrong ride leaving #4 and missed #9 to the left so about another 2.5mins lost which didn't help.

Maybe could have found a bit more time if running head to head especially in the second half, however mostly I fear I just could not run fast enough.....

Orienteering race 1:37:39 [5] **** 9.9 km (9:52 / km) +450m 8:02 / km
ahr:137 max:154 shoes: VJ Falcon

Scottish Champs M40L, 7th place. One min off 4th but 23mins (!) behind winner Steve Nich.

Got to tricky control 13 and pretty much the end of the technical section with maybe three or four mins lost with some scrappy technique from #4-#7 but felt I was doing okay, looked like an easy control at #14 on the edge of the open and then a lot of running legs to finish.

More fool me - #14 was an uphill leg not a contouring leg, ended up way low and in the wrong trees and wrong open, couldn't work it out at all and pressed on assuming I would hit the fence. No fence down where I was though. Ten mins lost and caught by Simon Patton (12 mins). Couldn't keep up and lost heart a bit after that, one more small miss on an easy control near the end and then slow on the long running leg over the hill to the penultimate. Hmm.

Running 56:00 [2]
ahr:117 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline Nov 2008

Very pleasant gentle flat run from the uni with Rosco and Dave C - checked out the urban terrain Causewayhead-Cornton-new estate whatever it is called and then out to the river.

From there found fab path that runs all the way along the river from there back into BofA, all very pleasant and rural in the evening sunshine, even disturbed a heron at one point. Ideal run, just what was needed.

Orienteering 52:19 [3]
ahr:124 max:146 shoes: new Inov8 Roclite

FVO evening event at Polmaise. Hmmm. Good course from Trevor with lots of route choice, meant to try quite hard and did so for 15mins. Then fell over a couple of times, got caught in some windblow, next thing I knew I realised I was jogging. Had a little bit of trouble finding my way through the Bermuda Triangle in the middle of the map too.

Control collection. And I mean one control.

Intervals intervals 19:25 [4]
max:162 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline Nov 2008

Same session as last week - 3min/2min/1min/30sec/full lap of loch with 1 min between reps.

Didn't think I was getting out of work in time but made it for the last little bit of warm up - ran the reps more steadily/sensibly than last week as a result and only really intensity 4 until the full lap.

Little difference from last week though and then 20sec faster for the full lap.
3min - 810m (approx - Brad?)
2min - 559m max HR 151
1min - 286m max HR 150
30s - 164m max HR 149
lap 8min 55s max HR 162

Running warm up/down 30:00 [2]

Running 44:08 [3] 8.78 km (5:02 / km) +160m 4:36 / km
ahr:133 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline Nov 2008

Lunchtime Polmaise with Brian, followed FVO time trial route through quarry given how wet and slippery the track would be - it was slippery enough on the main path back down the hill.

Struggling a bit at first but much better rhythm for the last 15 mins, enjoyed it despite the downpour!
