Down in Borrowdale for Ricky and Kim's wedding, a beer trail in the mist and drizzle was the plan for keeping the groom out of trouble in the morning.
Everyone was a bit keen and ready to leave at 9am so I was a bit concened to find myself heading off to catch everyone up with Nails and OJ as the next two a couple of mins ahead. Luckily my cunning failure to read the map early on meant I ran along the road not the footpath and caught up early on - just in time to watch many people run far too much of the ascent up Maiden Moor! However it is of course all about route choice and I had the right one so all was well, got to the sheepfold and even had time for a rest while we regrouped.
Good fun route along from there and down the side of High Spy, a great contouring route from there through some rocky ridges, reminiscent of Shamrock O-Ringen terrain except not sure I have ever run through that without a hangover. Was with Charlie to help minding the groom but when we got to the steep rocky descent they disappeared into the distance at high speed and I just had to hope Ricky remained uninjured. Fortunately he did so but Charlie nearly drowned him later, luckily they survived so Ricky could show us all which boulder the beer was hidden under at the end. So wet everywhere, no danger of Borrowdale not living up to its reputation!
Freezing cold shower in the hostel and then off to the wedding, all went off great and at the reception even a tent full of orienteers was defeated by the volume of food and drink provided, a rare event indeed!
