Mountain walking 4:30:00 [2]
shoes: walking boots

Perfect weather for early morning Olympic watching again, wet in the morning then gradually clearing. Once we could see the mountains then headed for the White Corries in Glencoe and did a horseshoe over Creise and Meall a' Bhuiridh - clouds lifted enough to see for miles in all directions, still no sun though!

Feeling a bit tired today early on but loosened up on the brutal climb up to the Creise ridge. Anthony feeling it a bit too on that climb after a tough few days. Fun walk round the ridge and summits after that, shame in some ways it wasn't further - although in other ways it was perfect as we were back at the ski centre 5 mins before the cafe closed!

Mountain walking 6:00:00 [2] 21.0 km (17:09 / km) +1770m 12:04 / km
shoes: walking boots

Great day today, Ben Nevis via Carn Mor Dearg arete, didn't see much sun but the clouds gradually rose and we were always in clear with huge swathes of mountains visible to enjoy. Even the top of the Ben cleared for us.

Finished back down the tourist path, not quite as interesting as the rest of the walk and very hard on the feet, glad when it was over!

Mountain walking 5:00:00 [2]

Buachaille Etive Mor with Anthony, good walk right along the ridge after brutal early climb. Hasty march along the valley at the end to get back in time for food.

A bit of rain early on but got some pretty good views later.

Running 1:00:00 [3] 9.8 km (6:07 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline Jan 2008

FVO pre curry and quiz run from chez Longhurst, with Lard, Gary, Rosco, skyhigh and Bradc plus special guest appearance by my brother who seemed to have little trouble with the pace despite not exactly running as frequently as the rest of us!

Top curry and then a glorious failure in the quiz, good evening of banter and I am on holiday for the next few days, perfect.

Note

Went to the podiatrist today, seemed to get good advice - hope so anyway as it persuaded me to splash large sums of money on new orthotics for my running shoes. Due in two weeks so fingers crossed that gets things sorted.

Running race 18:36 [5] 2.4 km (7:45 / km) +240m 5:10 / km
shoes: Inov8

Final Bog and Burn race at Caerketton, in slippery muddy-in-places conditions described on the results webpage as tricky and slow. Pleased to see that as slow is what I was!

Knew that if I was to overtake Kyle in the overall series I needed to beat him and finish in the top 20, always going to be a struggle. Tracked him on the steep ascent but struggling by the end and two places behind at the first top, rubber legged on the flat bit between the two tops and losing places as he gained them. Recovered a bit retracing steps along the flattish bit but didn't push it on the descent, in the end Kyle was 22nd and I was 42nd exactly two mins behind him.

Dixie ran a minute quicker than that for first over 50 in the race and the overall series, good effort which scored him lots of alcohol at the midge-fest which doubled as a prizegiving.

Secured my series win over Forestgump and Lard though, happy with that!!

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]
shoes: Inov8

Warm up to check out first part of course, plus Dixie made me do a warm down - thank you!
