Foot no better.
When it swelled up post-SA the pain was on the top and worst at the joints around the two little toes. Now it is same toes but underneath, metatarsals and just below. No swelling this time though.
Will give it this week of rest as a chance to settle, if not then off for treatment.

Late so missed the Pilates.
Foot protesting strongly at the racing etc of the past few days.
Quite a few alternative exercises to protect it (none with any impact) in the hope it will settle down....

Orienteering race 57:39 [4] 7.52 km (7:40 / km) +270m 6:30 / km
ahr:134 max:148 shoes: Inov8 x-talon

Blue Course at Holyrood Park.
A while since I ran a course in helly, jacket, hat and gloves!
Feeling deservedly jaded but slogged round and felt better for it. Glad to get a run done and the sun even came out at the end :)
Martin (presumably similarly jaded..) won in 55:52.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3] 0.5 km (20:00 / km)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2013

To the start plus some drills. Thinking the rain may be easing...

Orienteering race 45:47 [5] 8.94 km (5:07 / km) +83m 4:54 / km
ahr:150 max:162 shoes: Saucony Kinvara 2013

Edinburgh City Race.
M40+, 4th place.

Tried hard and didn't do too much wrong, feeling a bit lacking in speed on the sections where there was a chance to open up a bit.
Jase won in 44:08, not sure I could have run that. Martin second and Rog ('fresh' from the Devil's Burdens) was third.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 3.0 km (6:40 / km) +50m 6:09 / km
shoes: Inov8 x-talon

Short warm up jog plus to start, collecting a couple of controls afterwards.

Orienteering race 1:01:52 [5] 6.85 km (9:02 / km) +240m 7:41 / km
ahr:145 max:161 shoes: Inov8 x-talon

Polmaise night-o, quality stuff, thanks Tessa.

Going okay despite setting off to do the short loop not the long loop from the common control at #2. Which was a shame as otherwise there was a nice path route to #3. Although as I got to #3 at the front, I don't think anyone else took it either!

Gradually dropped by Will and Rog who had the same gaffle, got caught in grot leaving #7 so they were out of sight - but then we all met up in the circle at #9 - for minutes and minutes of thrashing around in the green, maybe five of them....

When the gaffling came together at #11, Claire and Rosco appeared to join the party too. At this stage no-one knew that Ben had found all the controls just fine and was minutes ahead - in fact no-one knew that until the finish!

Dropped badly on the steep climb up to #13 and ran the next section alone. Caught by Daniel two from the end after I messed the leg up in the path network, then Claire appeared again at the penultimate.

Ben 53, Will and Rog 56, Ross 59, Daniel/me/Claire 61.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 x-talon

Jogging etc, foot not too bad in these shoes.

Orienteering race 20:05 [5] 3.9 km (5:09 / km) +50m 4:50 / km
ahr:143 max:154 shoes: Inov8 x-talon

Mixed Sprint Relay with touch free SI punching. Wiped out big time on a corner en route to #1 and covered map in mud, took a while to find the course again. And a while after that to get going really. Not feeling terribly fit.

Orienteering race 45:21 [5] 8.79 km (5:10 / km) +100m 4:53 / km
ahr:141 max:152 shoes: Inov8 x-talon

Urban race from Perth College. Not feeling too bad after the sprint but just lacking in pace. Little slow to start but okay after that. Tied with Graeme, about seven mins down on John R and Will.

Left foot all swollen up this morning. Very sore across the joints by two smallest toes. Someone stand on it? A sprain? Something else? Don't know. Do know it is pretty sore!

Orienteering 59:40 [4] 10.2 km (5:51 / km)
ahr:140 max:156 shoes: Brooks Ghost5 Aug 2012

SLOW street-o, Maida Vale.
One hour score.
Managed to get lost in loading bays etc UNDER MY OWN OFFICE!!!
Also forgot one answer, answered the wrong question at another, and looked in wrong place for a third....which moved me nicely down from the top ten to 25th place.
Still, fun and nice to catch up with Phil and others in the pub afterwards.

Big Five-O Day 5, Lowveld Botanical Gardens, Nelspruit
M21E 2.8km
25th of 31

So missed getting top 20 every day but aim of overall top half achieved, 15th overall of 35. Sneaked ahead of Martin by 0.9 of a point overall (out of max 4000, after nearly 8 hours of racing).

Another very different area but really good again. Not a good run for me today though. Always going to be struggling for pace today so needed to keep it clean, dropped 20s at #6 but then a right mess of the second half, 50s at #13, 10s at #15 and a disastrous 45s at the penultimate, #20. Probably 5-10s dithering my way to the last too.

Winner was world champ Marten Bostrom in 15:11, Dave did 18:52, Martin 19:20. Lucky Martin wasn't 2s quicker or me 2s slower!

Big Five-O Day 4, Kaapsehoop Pear Orchard
M21E 13.0km
16th of 30

Pretty awful run today, moving okay through the first bit (7th after 8 controls) then a huge miss/thrash at #9 where I lost 7mins. Not alone as Martin lost 10min here too.

Then more thrashing at 12 and 15, and into the wrong block at 17, another 10-11 mins between these three.

Some other scrappiness in the circle too and struggled physically with the steep rough rocky slope for controls 24-29.

Moving at similar speed to Dave but obviously he didn't drop 20mins out there! Well down on the 135mins Dave ran and the 145 Martin ran, except then it turned out Martin had missed #4 out.

Winner Olli-Markus Taivainen in 94, Nick third with 113.
So not many points today, hope to score more tomorrow on the sprint day and drop today.
Down to 11th overall (by 0.1 of a point!) but the people who still need a fourth scoring day are queuing up behind me!

Big Five-O Day 3
M21E 6.4km, WRE Middle
17th of 33

South Africa's highest o map today, went above 2000m on the course. Cool area with lots of rocks in open and in runnable pine forest. Little yellow butterflies everywhere in parts of the forest, amazing.

Pretty scrappy run with lots of little errors, dropped far too much time. Can't even blame the magnetic rocks which were causing compass chaos for people as I coped okay with that, just sloppy on final approach to controls.

Finnish team all did 44-47 mins, Nick did 48, Dave 54, Martin 65.
10th overall after three days as so many people have only two scores, it is all downhill from here...
