Didn't quite make it out for headtorch control collection last night so a quick trot round this morning. Moving a little better through the terrain today.

Post control collection with Graeme from the accommodation, to meet the walkers coming the other way. Met them after 34mins. Decided to go on and bag the top (o' Selside) and then catch up again. Didn't catch up again until they were almost back so a longer and hillier run than expected!

Tarn Hows loop 1. Steep and rough and found it all a physical struggle. Didn't navigate too well either. Nice to be back in terrain for all that.

Triathlon bike leg (after MC did the swim). Very aware that Rosco was close behind and tried hard without feeling very powerful on the climb. Held him off okay and hence postponed the inevitable.....

International Duathlon run one. Just about managed to go faster than marathon pace.

International Duathlon bike leg. Felt much weaker than last year and it showed in the time. 30secs for the transition to the bike and 33 for the transition after it (not included in this time).

Duathlon run two. Took a while to loosen up. Didn't even manage marathon pace. Eek.

Total time 75-51 for 63rd place of 99 in the men, and 65th of 115 overall.

FVO run from the garden centre (!) up to Sauchie trig. Left behind by Forest and Fraser, never caught by Rosco, kept company by Magic, Lard and Fi. Felt tired. Which is not necessarily the best way to feel before a CLS week!

Got back from Heathrow in time to go training but couldn't decide whether to do Ochils intervals, solo Ballengeich hills, or just a run. Pulled onto the A8 towards Newbridge one place behind the Goddard-mobile so thought Ochils was the option.....followed Rog all the way to Keir roundabout where he headed off home up the A9 not right to the uni!

Had persuaded myself by then that I quite fancied a typical Ochils session of a few mins temp then some longish reps then some shorter ones to finish. A session of 5 times 6mins gradual ascent (about 50m climb in each rep) was not what I had in mind! The recovery times back down the hill (supposed to be 5mins) were a bit long too for what I need.

Struggling badly with no pace whatsoever, as well as feeling the extra weight (!), need to do some shorter stuff and get some improved leg speed. Unless all fast twitch automatically dissolves in the sleep as one moves into M45?? Felt quite plausible tonight....

The three parks from the Corus via Kensington Palace Gardens and Knightsbridge. Left hip/groin still not good, could feel it and really noticing the limitation in range of movement tonight.

A bit gutted not to be able to make the FVO session in lovely Drumore but consoled myself with an enjoyable frosty run up the hill behind the house. Did a bit of terrain running from the cairn (felt very rusty) and did the first part of the descent in terrain too (also poor but never could descend in the first place). All fun though. Reckon I could get into this running lark :)

Explored running up through the woods behind the house to find the track up the hill. Woods windblown and then steep climb through bracken before hitting the track.

Have looked at the map now and could have cut across to the track before the bracken, d'oh!

Quads sorer than they should have been after yesterday, happy to take it steady and not go all the way up the hill. It is a start at least.....

FVO night race, Stirling Old Town.

Took an unpopular route on the long leg to #1 right over the castle esplanade and found myself all alone, didn't seem too different from some of the other routes chosen as I saw Will and Marcus over the far side then Patrick at the control, but my lungs and chest didn't like the climb much and protested throughout the rest of the course.

Can't blame it all on that though, felt very slow (Ross won in 38 mins) and have much work to do!

From the flat in Moeraki round the headland and along the Millennium Track then the beach to the Moeraki Boulders. In the sun of course.

Back along the beach then the Track. Home in time for a quick snooze before dinner at the (legendary it seems) Fleur's Place, including the rare chance to eat Muttonbird!

Finished the day off with a (successful) sunset expedition up to the lighthouse to look for yellow-eyed penguins coming ashore after a hard days fishing.

A slow start to the day....

Waited for the relative cool of the evening and ran a good out-and-back round the south end of Lake Hawea drinking in the views. Very enjoyable. Also not as cool as I had thought it would be - straight into the lake afterwards!
