So that was this Marcialonga.
What to say.

Let me start this way. My aim was actually just to go it, in summertime I was not motivated enough to go on roller skis, cause I thought that December and January will be well enough with snow to get some good training. Failed. Worst winter ever? So I had 3-4 skitours and 3 rollerskiing tours since I decided to compete in Marcialonga last year in March.
That is not the best way to get ready for my first skiing race ever, and not enough with that, it is 70km long. My starting position was shit. It did not help that some snow was falling threw the night and got up to 8 degrees during the day.

We watched the elite start, and got slowly ready for our stat. I had bib number 5872, which means start group 5500 - 6000. Which means 5500 skiers before myself in the tracks. Our start group got delayed by 15min. than nailing it out to at least be one of the first ones of the 5500 - 6000 group. Coming to the first uphill part, it all was packed with people. I got already annoyed...after like 1km in the race. Martin GS came along took of skis and ran up, I did the same. Coming in to the first little town, just slushy ankle deep snow without grip..like 7km out on the coure, loads of people, slush, I was pissed off, annoyed and had only 62km to go. Fuck that shit. Up to Canazei it was just one big hustle, changing tracks, going slalom around people, it was NO FUN at all. From Canazei it got a bit better, but every steep uphill people were standing waiting, because others were falling or lying down already. No way to get some good speed. And to all of that shit in addition there were no tracks the until Vale Di Fiemme, because of thousand of people, warm weather ruining them. YEAH. After passing our Hotel I had the worst part of the race. I was considering to just take off my skis and go home. I was so demotivated. I had not the best skis, no grip since the 10km mark, so it was just one big hustle. I had to say 100 times to myself: come on, do the whole race, you will get a better starting position next time. So that was my motivation. Even looking at my heartrate I can see it was just a really long skitour...yeah yeah. I made it to the finish, was tired, and bla and blubb and so on. The last weeks before the race my aim got more and more to make the 5 hours mark, when i realized I will not make it...the motivation was not really boosting up...But at least the guys said in a better starting group I would have easy made the 5h ...

Next time better starting position, more roller skiing threw the summer and better prepared.
