10mila 1st leg. First time in my life in a really big relay like 10Mila running the first leg. Our team was strong, but than on Friday one of our best runners, Eskil Kinneberg, got sick. So he could not run and we had to change the team even one more time. Boring, but alright, we still had a strong starting line up on the first legs and our goal was that the speakers will say the team name "Raumar" several times threw the night.
I was nervous the last 10min before the start. Before that it was alright. Than from the first meters it was a hard fight for position in the field. I found a fair good position on the asphalt airplane line, with fair little enemy contact. We went off the first 500m in 3.02min/km pace and the first K we ran in 3.50min/km with some cross country bit and climbing over some trees. I decided to follow the wrong guys to the first control, at least the wrong route choice, not taking the path and running threw a greenish area. Anyway i went straight in to my first control and nailed it, but had the feeling i was not so good in the front in the pack. On the route choice to the second control i was just following backs climbing position after position, went a bit too far but could find myself quite easily on the map and corrected the mistake straight away. Fourth control i was together with Kalevan, Kristiansands and so on, so knew i did not miss too much in the beginning to the important teams. Than in the uphill climbing to the 5th control everybody was going nuts. I thought soon there is going to break out a big fight in the group with fists flying and so on. But in the end it went "fine" and i think that was the first radio control. I had no idea how i was there, but thought i was quite behind, due to the stupid climbing. But now afterwards it looks like i was nr. 22 there. Which was good. Than the next long leg i nailed my control, but got distracted by the pack and followed them into their control and than going on to the next control. Stupid of me, loosing i reckon nearly a minute. Still at the radio control i surprisingly was nr. 7.. and already on the next long leg, i realized i was in a good pack with Södertälje, Kalevan, Kristiansand, Terä, Hällen, and so on. Than nailed that control and was going good with the pack to next control. Than that was the pre-warning, i think, the following control. I can now see i was nr. 4 there...weheys. Than the most stupid leg ever came up. It was 1 km of poor path running. Why the fuck do you do shit like that in 10Mila? Just to mind some terrain? That was sooo fucking boring and i lost fair ground and places there. Kiril passing me by and cheering me up i should push. But i was tired. Next control was a joke. Than the last gaffel i realized quickly i had to stay with Terä and Hällen for my gaffel. So i did. And they missed, me a bit, and i was first at my gaffel but did not take the straight fastest route choice to the next control and it was the same pack again. Over the last field i counted all guys...i was nr. 11 i counted, just to keep position. Feeling pain in my legs everywhere the last uphill..than rolling downhill to last control and trying to get not passed by the guy who was straight behind me, i think it was Emil Lauri :)....i came in as Nr. 11 49 sec down to Kiril. Awesome! One of my best races ever. I count that higher than the EYOC medal in 2002 and the NM 6th Relay two years ago.
Than Eirik, Eirik and Vetle did a good job and after "Långa Natten" we were just 6,5min down. Than Øyvind had a bad day, Trygve an okay day, Sondre an nja day, Håvard an alright day, Simen a bad day, and Magne not the best day, which resulted in 46th spot. Alright, but a little bit annoying to get beaten by Halden 2...hurts me a bit.
Anyway, it seems like i did something right this winter. No big injuries, no big health problems, good amount of orienteering and pleasing results. Nice one.
Sondre missing on the picture.
