Orienteering 49:40 [3]

Nationals middle - Middle Earth. 8th. Mucked up 1 by being too far right, then okay through 2, 3, 4, then too far left and high to 5 and got confused in the distinctive trees/bushes and lost 2mins - saw Georgia looking strong on her way to 9. 6 - 13 not too bad, then lost time at 14, 15, and 16 in the change in vegetation and not being able to figure out the contours for some reason. Then lost time on 17 when I didn't really have a plan other than the general direction of the leg. Probably lost about 4 mins in total over those four legs. Kate caught me on the way to 17 and I tried hard to keep up for the rest of the course, which I almost managed. We took slightly different routes to some of the controls and generally did a lot of stopping and starting, which seemed necessary with the detail of the map. Not too happy with my mistakes on this course, especially at 5 and in the green.

Orienteering 1:22:59 [3]

Nationals Long - Waioneke. 5th. discovered the wonders of energy gels with caffeine in them - thanks Lizzie:) Went too far right to 1, but that made attacking the control really easy so ended up not being so bad. 3-7 all slightly messy but not too bad, but had my map folded and didn't see the long leg to 8 until I was at 7, which was not ideal. Took the track and fence almost all the way to 8, which was pretty good, had the gel, a bit slow over the ridge to 9, then down to the track 9-10. Straight/left route to 11, then round the sand to 12, which I didn't think was fast, but looks good on win splits. Caught Angela on the way to 12, which I wasn't expecting. Round the final loop was a bit the same as the first loop - all slightly messy but no big mistake apart from 19, where I though I went off the clearing on the track at the right angle, but then had to go back and up to get to the control, then had the wrong angle from there to 20 as well, so lost ~30s there too. Overall pretty happy though - my best elite result at Nationals:) Was buzzing on my warm down and took me a while to realise why...

Orienteering 19:29 [3]

Nationals Sprint - Kristin School. 11th. Mucked up route choice to 1 and 3 because of large impassable wall that wasn't mapped, got a bit messy in the last loop because I couldn't read ahead enough in the detail. Lost time on 18 and 19 when I couldn't tell what level the controls were on. Got caught by Mace early in the second part of the course, then by Kate at 18, so that wasn't so good...
