Urban race around Lossiemouth, which included some beautiful forest terrain as well. Men's open, 8.8 km. A superb event, with all sorts of variety. The start was in the RAF base - a novel touch, having to walk past someone pointing a machine gun at you to get to the start. The base section was short and sprint-style, with the last control on a jet aircraft, then out and into town for more usual urban stuff, then off along the beach and into the woods, and finally back through town and a hugely technical housing estate full of a maze of alleyways. An awful lot packed into an hour or so, and 45 controls!! Had a good run, losing a minute or so on two of the beach/forest controls. The transition from town to more familiar terrain caught almost everyone out. Despite running through town on 1:5000, there wasn't much need to judge distances. In the forest it was all about distance judgement, and the unfamiliar mapping style and scale were tough to adjust to.
