Note

My various broken bits needed a day of DIY and rest instead of official exercise. My arms and shoulders, at least, got a good workout heaving away at various seized bits on the Elliptigo. Note, must really service it more than once every 5 years.

Strength training 55:00 [1]

Circuits, knees and weights. My back is really starting to suffer from confinement, time to make the sessions a daily event.
2 PM

Hill walking 2:11:59 intensity: (30:58 @0) + (1:03:19 @1) + (34:08 @2) + (3:34 @3) 10.51 km (12:33 / km) +517m 10:05 / km
ahr:100 max:127 shoes: Hoka Tor Speed 2 WP boots

A wee walk on the Western Ochils with Jamie. As expected, absolutely no one out on THESE hills! Perfectly pleasant, traditionally Ochil experience of tufty grass, heather and bog, with all of Jamie's game chat lulling me into a semi-catatonic state.

Cycling (Turbo) 52:30 intensity: (14:58 @1) + (34:25 @2) + (3:07 @3) 30.11 km (34.4 kph) +142m
ahr:112 max:127 shoes: Genesis Croix de Fer 30 2016

"HIT FTP Booster" sounds impressive but it was actually a really easy session. Felt like a structured workout for a change but wanted to keep it short as the knee is still being cr*p, so, options were limited. Tbh if I'd gone for anything harder I'd have had to stop anyway, as this was niggling the knee as it was. Boo. At least it eased my back! Need to get all my flexibility in tip top condition for table tennis :-)

Strength training 30:00 [1]

BW Resistance work. Overdid it a little - triggered some LBP
8 PM

Cycling (Turbo) 38:38 intensity: (49 @2) + (29:49 @3) + (8:00 @4) 23.04 km (35.8 kph) +196m
ahr:136 max:150 shoes: Genesis Croix de Fer 30 2016

Completely missed my planned Cervelo ride - grrr - so I just picked the first shortish event to come up. Surprised by the small group, and then even more so when everyone bar myself and two others shot off the start line and disappeared! I was only wanting to have an easy day so span easily around the route, only to be presented with a leaderboard when crossing the finish line. Ah. So that must have been a race, then. Whoops...

Strength training 1:00:00 [1]

Usual mash-up, being careful on the lunges with the auld knee
11 AM

Cycling (Turbo) 42:22 [3] 26.04 km (36.9 kph) +243m
ahr:145 max:162 shoes: Genesis Croix de Fer 30 2016

Short and sweet. No group so no drafting today. Ice required afterwards (sadly on my knee, not in a glass - maybe later for that) - knee still grumbly from Monday.

Note

Follow-up call with the Doc about my knee (not THE doc as she's off isolating, alas). So, basically I need to stop running and causing pain in my knee, because that is just making the bone-swelling and cartilage damage worse. Carry on doing the physio work to strengthen all the muscles around the knee and relieve pressure on it, but stick to walking / cycling for now. I'm being referred to the soft tissue knee clinic to speak to a consultant but, of course, all of that sort of work is currently on hold; realistically, it could be a year and more before I get that appointment. And, even then, if there was some treatment possible, I'd have to wait to get the surgery, then spend x months in rehab, then start training again...

Oh well. Sounds as if M50 is a write-off. Time to lay my hopes on a comeback in M55.
5 PM

Cycling (Road) 53:03 intensity: (37 @0) + (3:55 @1) + (15:44 @2) + (32:47 @3) 21.81 km (24.7 kph) +244m
ahr:126 max:143 shoes: Specialized Globe Vienna Disc

The long way round to collect Beccy's office mail, AKA the depressed-about-my-knee ride. Passed lots of nice wee running trails in the woods. Boo. And don't mention the pain in my knee. Rehydrated with beer.

Strength training 45:00 [1]

Usual mash up, mobilising back/nees before another day of sitting down
12 PM

Running (Terrain) 44:01 intensity: (5 @0) + (15 @1) + (4:56 @2) + (32:37 @3) + (6:08 @4) 5.64 km (7:48 / km) +144m 6:55 / km
ahr:134 max:155 shoes: 2019 Salomon Speedtrak

Easy terrain with Jamie - he wasn't on top form today. Hopped over the back fence at exactly the same time as Jase, and we ran together (at an SD-appropriate distance) for the first mile or so until we turned left and he peeled off right for a longer loop down the Wharry burn. Some nice wee bits of woodland! My knee had had enough by about the 40 minute mark, so it had swollen up a bit and needed icing afterwards. Cracking sunny afternoon.
6 PM

Strength training (Pilates) 55:00 [1]

Another fun FVO Pilates -by-Zoom session
