(rest day)

Touristing around Copenhagen, which is a genuinely lovely city, even on a day as wearyingly hot as this. Things went downhill as we neared the airport, and Eilidh had a huge tantrum at the hire car return place where we waited half an hour and emptied our bags multiple times over the car park in order to try and get her to wear pants (fail). Mood set in grump before we even reached the terminal, which, as it transpired, has no public seating at all, except in the cafes where you have to pay 6 trillion DKK for a cup of tea, something of a sh*tter when your SleasyJet wind-up plane is 2 hours late (surprise, surprise). Edinburgh airport, though, had the last laugh by keeping us on the plane for ten minutes before deigning to bring steps, and then taking over half an hour to offload the bags. In bed at 2:30pm Danish time. Need a holiday.

Being cultural at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. Honestly, most of the stuff was @bsol!ute b@!!ards. I saw one Gabriele Munter picture that I loved, but that was about it, some of the rest was chunder on a canvas (and one sculpture I particularly loved should have been subtitled "turd on a plate"). That said, the crafty DIY stuff was fun, I reckon I could give DougT a run for his money in the architectural stakes.

WMOC Long Final, Gribskov:M45A, 10.3km. A long way on a very hot day. As usual I couldn't get my head into race mode for the long race; set off slowly and never got any faster. Broken bits didn't like the long path options, so I did a lot of direct running through the forest, which was certainly slower but kinder on the body. One big miss at #10 where I allowed myself to get distracted by two faster M45s running past me, and forgot my plan; 6 mins lost on that one, and 2 on another, but I was was generally just very slow. One day I'll work out that it's OK to try to actually run at a long O race...

WMOC Middle M45B Final. 2nd. The top 25% of the B final runners win qualification to the Long A final so, given that I was 4th last starter, I had to give it a shot. Set off hard and promptly blew 1 min on the 1st control, caught by my 1-min man (but both of us catching the guy in front of me). Then was in a tussle with those two until about #6, although always doing my own thing, which was to nail the bearings; 1 min-ahead-man was path running and 1-min-behind was following me. Got away from 1-min-behind at #6, but blew #10 by 80s when I head-butted a tree so hard I saw stars. No more losses, though, and was surprised to see 1-min-ahead guy coming back to me when I was leaving #14. Pushed on through the next three and ran hard all the way to finish, ending up in surprise 2nd place, 1:54 down. Promoted!

WMOC Forest Qualifier. M45: 7.8km. Very nice. Shame about the pillock with the map and compass.
(Unlearnt) lessons from orienteering #648.2: when you're having a clean run, don't think to yourself "gosh, I'm having a clean run", promptly forget to orienteer, and lose 4 mins on #16. And then DEFINITELY don't panic and lose another 3 mins on #18. Idiot. Missed the A final by, mmm, a couple of places? Certainly by less than 7 minutes...

Jog around the forest model area with Jamie. Giving him lots of tips from the master. Poor lad.
