Muthill Sportive on the Elliptigo! Well, the Challenge (34 miles) - not fit enough to "run" for 4h30+. My two vague "targets" were to finish in about 2h15, and maybe about 10 minutes behind Louise, 'coz she's pretty handy on a bike. Both were slightly ambitious (Louise finished in an excellent 2h07, 12 mins ahead), but I was happy enough!

I didn't want to be a road block at the start on my battleship, so started at the back, but as a result got well boxed in on the twisty turny cycle path and was pretty much coasting for the first 3km. When I got going I breezed past several folk, caught up Dave just before Gleneagles, then was basically cycling on my own for the entire rest of the route. Happy enough with the long drag up Langside, but had to push down the hill into Comrie (wind resistance and insufficient gearing!) so hit a bit of a low patch going east from there, before the steep climbs back up to Muthill. Bunged the Go into ultra-low gear and ground up the hills, so recovered slightly, but was well tired by the finish.

Fantastic effort by Gary to finish 2nd on a stupendous 3h46 on the 70 mile Sportive. They're definitely eating some funky stuff in that Longhurst house :-).

Great event - lovely route, fab grub afterwards, nice and low key. Will definitely aim to do again next year!

Great Green course (4.3km +150m) by Jase on a cracking wee area. Lots of contour detail and features, and the area would have been perfect had it not also been heavily used by cattle. I struggled to get through the churned up ground in places - too tentative and not strong enough to push through the terrain. Still would have been an OK time had I not lost quite such a ridiculous amount of time at #5 (>3 mins?!).

Wasn't exactly killing myself (as the HR trace shows) but my running has definitely gone off the boil just now. Enjoying my pies and beer a bit too much as well, perhaps! Should really try to sharpen up before the summer of O... maybe :) TRIMP 94.4.

Should've worn wellies: it would have kept my feet dry and wouldn't have affected today's plodding "style". Best drowned rat impersonation for quite some time. Had to briefly stop on the road back to avoid being totally sluiced by passing traffic (might have been a laugh though!). TRIMP 114.4.
