Back to the gloomy grey skies, but at least it was mild enough for cycle shorts! Dug out - and de-seized - old Bertha for a scoot. Wind-assisted on the way out made for a few PRs, but also a long, hard slog all the way back over the Muir from Blackford. Great to be back out on the road on two wheels! TRIMP 138.7.

Travelling. Had a nice walk around a nature reserve before heading to the airport.

Escaped to the hills on the final day here, although under a strict time limit and, alas, this was the worst day of the week for going high - 17C, but cloudbase at 1000m. Couldn't go too far and there was no point staying high for a long ridge walk on the Aitana, so, straight up the Ben Nevis of the Costa Blanca it was, then - Puig Campana. Enjoyed the huge grind up the "vertical kilometre", alongside the scree-filled Barranco (think the Great Stone Shoot), but the last 400m were in cloud. Bit sketchy at the top. Dog-legged it out to the 1408 summit, then jogged off the other side and scooted around the western edge of the hill. Legs felt great, but feet suffered in VJs on the stony ground feel bruised now! TRIMP 149.9.

O training again! My turn to put out a course for the kids and then go around it with them whilst Beccy ran in the mass start. I went out after she got back and got about halfway around again before the controls started disappearing. On the Guardamar Sur map today, which we hadn't run on before - lovely and runnable in places but some really thick and intricate green stuff along the coastal edge. Tricky, but I was pretty solid today! Legs well tired by the end. TRIMP 92.8.

O no not again! Middle distance SI race on the Guardamar map, 5.9km. My legs were cream-crackered. Stuffed up one hidden in the bushes in a flat area, and then a notch re-entrant a few later when I was dreaming of a cold beer with my lunch. Which was lurvely, BTW. Again, the mass start didn't really happen but, unlike yesterday, there were lots of folks competing, including several kids who ran past me like I was a tree stump. TRIMP 109.7.

Note

Could have gone to the gym. Should have gone to the spinning class. Instead, went to the pool and spa for half an hour, then drank beer. Aaaarp.

Night-O(MG) on the Guardamar Norte map. Seriously difficult, not helped by the mass start never actually happening - I was on my own for the entire race! TBH I'm just chuffed to finish a tough course on a fiendishly difficult map with the paths removed. And with my 'backup' torch to boot - really missed the proper torch! I went very slowly and tried to play it safe with the navigation but still managed to drop 15 minutes, mostly in or near the control circle. Didn't disgrace myself, though - I was far from last! Great training and a fabulous place to be out in the forest at night. TRIMP 111.6

SI race on Guardamar North (La Marina). Beccy went out in the mass start whilst I took the kids around a yellow standard course that Per had kindly planned for us (I just had to put the controls out). I then went out after she came back. Still feeling quite lacklustre. I had controls for the first half or so, but when I arrived at #10 I couldn't find the control; after 6 or 7 minutes I finally realised that they must have started to take them in. From then on I was slower and more tentative - I'm much less confident when trying to find short pieces of white tape than when I'm trying to find controls! Pace slowed by >1 min/km and I lost a bit more time floundering about. Hamstring began to ache after the hour. TRIMP 105.3.
