Change of plans when Jamie too ill/grumpy to go to orienteering - sadly too late to coordinate with Jase for a longer cycle, as he'd already headed off. Had to shore up my non-existent front brakes anyway. Set off with vague ambitions of going for the Duke's Pass, but sense prevailed - 75-80km would have been a big step-up, whereas I felt OK with 56km, although I had to get off and stretch out my back at 40km. Probably could have managed a bit more but I'm not training to compete - my back will never let me take up cycling seriously - I'm just keen to get a bit fitter, as much as my cr*ppy back will allow. Back home in time for the home-made soup. Yum. TRIMP 200.8.

Early morning on the Elliptigo: Braco and return via Auchinlay road. Legs rubbish (I'm not good at early mornings!) and it was one of those days where there was no wind, but it was always in your face... chuffin' freezing, too, -0.5C at 06:30! All done and dusted and tucking into my bacon and egg roll in time for Beccy to head off for the day at 09:00. TRIMP 129.7.

One of these days I'm going to be able to cycle to work, so it's about time I had a go to see if my back can stand up to the time in the electric bike's saddle. Made a point of cycling in no-assist mode where sensible on the route out to Torrie, which wasn't too hard to do with such a good tailwind. Carried on to Callander then on to Invertrossachs but cut back to the Lade Inn. Took the high road back from Callander and the road surface was dreadful - think I'll give it a miss next time, which is a shame because it's so lovely. Straight back from Doune. Lower back definitely aching but OK shortly after finishing. HR trace a nonsense; I think the wind noise confused it! TRIMP 139.9.

Running (Trail run) 32:30 intensity: (41 @0) + (24 @1) + (1:42 @2) + (12:25 @3) + (17:18 @4) 6.36 km (5:07 / km) +169m 4:31 / km

Time for something a bit shorter and harder. Kept up a decent pace around the short Gathering Stane loop. So dry! The Dumyat race tomorrow will be a dust bowl. TRIMP 71.2

Elliptigo 1:07:34 intensity: (31 @0) + (1:41 @1) + (13:54 @2) + (32:35 @3) + (18:29 @4) + (24 @5) 26.61 km (23.6 kph) +353m

Still not much life in the legs, and pretty much a PW to Braco into a headwind. Couldn't get the legs working hard enough, as the HR trace clearly shows. Reckon I've ramped up the mileage (by my modest standard!) a bit too early - not enough base. Still, this whole year is probably about just getting some miles in, I'll worry about speed next year.
Not great on the climb up onto Sherrifmuir but smashed my PB on the descent to Glen Road - topped out at 62.4kph, segment time 11 secs off, to 6:43 - but some other geezer also took advantage of the tailwind today and did 5:59.6! Total beast. Mind you, he was probably on a slick racer, not a 2-ton Elliptigo. TRIMP 136.4.
