Orienteering race 1:31:00 intensity: (13 @0) + (23 @1) + (12:09 @2) + (1:00:40 @3) + (17:35 @4) 9.58 km (9:30 / km) +176m 8:42 / km

Scottish Champs - Ardnaskie. M40L: 8km +250m.

Terrible, terrible, terrible. Awful off the start, completely c*cked up the first longish leg, to #2, crossing at the wrong crossing point and throwing away 10 mins in silly confusion. Scrappy thereafter, never finding anything easily, and a couple of other multi-minute faffs. The main issues, though, were fitness and health; I simply couldn't get my legs moving, for one (see the super-low heart rate), and then at about 40mins my left knee started to get really painful on any sort of ascent. After after 15 minutes of that the sharp pains subsided into a dull ache, but it was ever present and very distracting.

Terrible performance - hadn't had enough to eat or drink (especially) before starting, and was completely drained by the finish. Knee seized up totally, too, and was nicely swollen by the evening. One to forget. TRIMP 191.2.

FVO WEE, Doune Pounds; green (5.3km +90m).

Good course by Ben. Legs still rubbish, taking ages (15 mins) to get going - a warm up would have helped, but we were late. Saying that, I was slow but steady to #8, then quite annoyed to lose 3 mins to #9 because of poor veg marking on the map. "Difficult to run" was impenetrable gorse; I tried to get through but had to crawl back out and go all the way around. Dispiritedly slow to #10, started to pick up #11 - #12 as Roger had reeled me in, but I carelessly overshot and he got past. I was then OK again on the south side of the road - where the "difficult to run" veg was actually accurately mapped. Missed #20 slightly, then got badly savaged trying to get into #22 (lots of impressive head & face cuts) and lost my bearings as a result - the only other significant time drop (ca. 2 mins). Jogged home from there. TRIMP 136.8.

Elliptigo out towards Braco for 25 mins then back. Weather played its usual card and a squall came in just as I turned, presenting me with horizontal wind in my face for a pleasant 3km. Yum. Very tired & slow legs today. TRIMP 114.8.
