Orienteering race 57:11 intensity: (17 @1) + (12 @2) + (21 @3) + (27:59 @4) + (28:22 @5) 10.31 km (5:33 / km) +140m 5:12 / km

TAY Xmas Score at Camperdown Park and Templeton Woods. Long (60 mins although, due to a late dash to get there and being typically disorganised, I'd forgotten to actually ascertain that it was 60 and not 70, as I realised once out on the course - d'oh!).
Fun as ever, despite the blustery smattering of light rain before starting, but a tactical disaster on my part. I set off OK and was moving alright around Templeton Woods despite lack of fitness, but failed to pick up the 15-pointer in the golf course just after coming back across the road, because my thumb covered it. I noticed it a little afterwards, but also failed to see that I could have tagged it later on by coming in from the south - I couldn't see the overprinted crossing point because the polypocket holding my map was crumpled by this stage.
Tactical blunder #2 - I only realised when I got to the last of the three controls (in the order that I ran) that had map segments showing bonus controls that there actually WERE bonus controls (again, blundered in not reading the pre-event info!), so only managed to tag one of those, just before the finish. At this point I had realised that I was going to get pretty much all the controls and, at 52 minutes running time, could just possibly trundle all the way back up to the missed one on the golf course and scream back down into the finish before the cut-off. After three minutes crawling up the hill, however (early enthusiasm/energy had dissipated at about 30 minutes and my total lack of fitness was now killing me) I realised that this was a pipe dream, so turned tail and headed back down. So - one 15-pointer and two bonus controls missed, and 4 minutes' more running time without benefit. Oops! Still - I somehow managed to snag 5th place (not sure how). Good to see Ali R showing both great running and canny tactics to grab everything and win! TRIMP 182.8

Very short window to get out for a quick bit of exercise before heading off to Glasgow for the JOK Xmas gathering Chez Wilson (which was very enjoyable!). No hangover after Friday's exploits (just wine last night, unlike the previous Friday, so I felt OK head-wise) just a bit dehydrated after the day and legs feeling heavy. Also very unfit! Wee bit of crusty snow on the trails, but only occasionally slowing progress. Felt better for getting out. TRIMP 81.8

Gym (Cross-trainer) 40:00 intensity: (1:37 @0) + (2:38 @1) + (11:51 @2) + (15:31 @3) + (8:23 @4) 5.82 km (6:52 / km)

Foul out. Stopped off at the uni gym en route back from a work meetings at FVRH and hit the cross ramp. High tempo rather than heavy resistance. TRIMP 71.6.
