S6D, day 6 - Coulmony. M40S - 6.0km +320m. 7th.
A top placing might have put me in with a chance of nabbing 4th overall, but today was not my day. I'm rubbish in poor vis / heavy veg anyway, as I can't see the landscape, and I was tired after helping, so had poor concentration from the start. Struggled with the 1:10k scale after being on 1:7500 all week, too - on Ben's advice I am going to try a magnifier to help me see the detail better!
Anyway, the run - 10 mins down, due to 2 mins on #2 (didn't read the map), 5 mins on #12 - no solid attackpoint, thick bracken, no clue how to relocate! - and several flutters. Same old, same old! 7th on the day, to give me 3, 3, 7 and 7 as my counting runs - but, rather than sneak 4th, I dropped to 6th overall, as I got nobbled by a better-improving Kiwi!
Still - a pretty solid 6 Days for me, very nice orienteering areas, just some obvious areas where I need to improve. Chuffed/relieved that my knee/back survived (although former sore after today). And - Beccy won W40S with three 1sts and a 2nd. Top-O!

S6D, day 5 - Roseisle. M40S - 6.1km +195m. 3rd.
This was lovely - great day, gorgeous terrain, nice course. Shame my legs just didn't want to run! Everyone was in the same boat, though; despite not moving fast and making my inevitable mistake - 2m30s on #17, just after passing MarkG - I had a respectable placing, just 1m20 down on Mike Jubb. Day 3, Culbin. Gaah. So nearly an excellent result. Slow start, tentative in the knobbly stuff, and slightly fluffy in the next few, then really started motoring and started hitting lots of fastest splits. Still, I was very surprised to catch Jubby up 90s by #10. Kept it together, but the legs started to fail from #14, and he eased ahead by 30s on 15-16. I was still in 2nd then, only 19s down on BenH. Then oxygen debt caught me and I blew a gasket on the incredibly easy #17, still can't believe it - I I missed the track junction attackpoint and just couldn't see the control. 4 minutes. Oh well. Down from 2nd to 7th in one simple mistake.

Very pleased with my running and everything holidng together, and even relatively happy with the nav, if only I could get rid of the "one mistake" syndrome. TRIMP 126.1.

Day 2, Carse. Better today, 3rd on M40S. A more interesting course than Lossie, making use of the many vague features, so you could motor but still had to keep in touch. Started well and probably only made about 3 minutes of minor fluffs in total - a solid result by my standards! Only feeling my tweaky knee in the last 5 minutes. TRIMP 153.1.
