Scottish Champs, M40S - 6.5km + 305m. 1st (but the only other runner retired! 4th on course 6).
Glad we made the effort to go today, given that last time I came to Loch Doon I vowed never to come back. The tussocks weren't half as fearsome as I remembered when they were dry and the sun was shining. Jogged along steadily and well within my back's limits. Hesitant at 2 (stopped too short), poor route choice to 4, and then had an absolute howler 7 minute error on 5. I knew that it was going to be difficult - a vague hillside with difficult relocation opportunities - but failed to give it the respect it deserved, and found #10 before I found it! Poor. I was fine after that, only really losing another 30s on 9 and 45s or so on 11, stopping too short. 12 mins down on course leader Rosco, and I could find 10 of those easily enough, but then he was also only jogging along carefully to protect his calf. TRIMP 171.5.
Tired and unfit outing on Bertha at the end of the working day. Feeling the effects of the last few weeks' relative inactivity, and too many pies recently. HR - again - more an indication of fitness level than performance level. TRIMP 140.3.
