Orienteering race 1:24:49 intensity: (25 @1) + (2:36 @2) + (22:52 @3) + (58:56 @4) *** 8.75 km (9:42 / km) +425m 7:48 / km

CST: Birsemore Hill. Madly ran the Brown: 7.1km, won by Murray in 52(!). Back & achilles sore this morning, but I swallowed enough painkillers to fell a horse - whoops, sorry, prime Aberdeen Angus cow - and braved the terrain. Which was very nice, much nicer than I'd remembered it, although I am dreadfully terrain unfit and, hence, had the opportunity enjoy it at a slower pace.

I was happy with my orienteering for the first hour, with only a couple of mini-fluffs accumulated by #19. I saw Murray at #9, and was briefly worried that he might tuck in behind for a tow, but thankfully he took a totally silly direct route to #10, with no bananas, dithers or loops, which gave me the opportunity to stomp off and drop him.

Then it all went badly wrong at #20, where I dropped too far down the hill on a long descending traverse, and threw away 4 mins. Another at #21, another couple at #22 and, incredibly, another couple at #23. 9 minutes thrown away on the last four controls! Basically, with the end in sight I'd switched off and couldn't restart the neutered neurons. Very disappointing. I'd have been happy with 74/75. Still, lots of positives. I ran a Brown, and navigated fine for the first hour, and my back/achilles didn't cave. Um, yet. Lovely area and great day, too. More, please. TRIMP 213.4.

Something decidedly not good going on with my left achilles... hm.

When work is doing your head in, it's time to go and batter yourself with some eyeballs-out exercise. Hammered myself on the cross-trainer at Livi gym. TRIMP 89.8.

Gym (Cardio) 2:30 [4]

Forgot to start watch for the first part of a workout on the Speed-skating (aka bootie-wiggle) machine. Really quite an odd thing - tough work, though. TRIMP 5.0.

Gym (Cardio) 7:32 intensity: (1 @3) + (7:31 @4)
ahr:156 max:161

...and the remainder of the skate/bootie machine workout. TRIMP 18.8.

Running (Trail) 25:59 intensity: (47 @1) + (1:04 @2) + (12:14 @3) + (11:54 @4) 5.38 km (4:50 / km) +32m 4:41 / km

Another mostly wasted day, too late for everything, and the only way I could squeeze in any exercise was to run via Ashfield to collect the kids. Tried to keep up a steady pace. TRIMP 56.4.
