Running (Hill run) 57:51 [3] 6.48 km (8:56 / km) +713m 5:46 / km
(injured) shoes: Inov8 O-Roc 350

Ben Chonzie from Invergeldie. Another opportunity to get up a hill. Decided not to bite off more than I could chew, and opted for the "normal" route up Ben Chonzie, a route I've not done before but which looked very runnable. Thus it proved. My legs were a bit sore so I took it very easily; I ran all the way, but was comfortably within my limits and I took care to just patter along and not stride out. Even so, my hamstring started to make those telltale twinges so I decided that it would be enough to just run the "up", and walk the descent. Cold up top.

Hill walking 1:08:42 [1] 6.46 km (10:38 / km) +4m 10:36 / km

Brisk walk down the hill. Less hamstring twinges straight away, so, a good move. The track was often icy and rocky, so not very fast progress; in summer (and when fit) this could be an excellent descent - and a good training run all round.

Ssh. Don't tell the physio. It was such a lovely day that I couldn't face going to the gym, and, since my back is feeling so much better since I've been standing to work at my computer, I ignored all advice and decided to just try a little run. Up a hill. Less impact that way.

So it was that my extended lunch break saw me at the foot of Ben Ledi, and 49 minutes later saw me at the top. I was utterly elated - I had almost resigned myself to never being able to do this sort of thing again, and it means ever such a lot to me to be able to run up a hill - which I did, albeit at a very slow pace, but I didn't once have to break into a walk. I came over all emotional at the top. Please, God, if you exist, let me carry on being able to do this. I live for it.

Needless to say I took the descent very slowly indeed, trying not to jar my back. Tomorrow morning will be the proof of the pudding, but, whatever the outcome, I am so glad that I was able to do this today.

No Pilates/Circuits today due to a doctor's appointment (getting on the waiting list for an MRI scan on my back) so I went to the gym instead and managed a decent, 90% cross-trainer workout. HR still high and sniffle still present, but pretty much over the cold now. TRIMP 125.7
