Running warm up/down 15:00 [3] 2.0 km (7:30 / km) +50m 6:40 / km
shoes: Inov8 O-Roc 350

Long jog to the start today!

Orienteering race 1:12:58 intensity: (18 @1) + (2:53 @2) + (25:41 @3) + (44:06 @4) **** 9.4 km (7:46 / km) +405m 6:23 / km

JK day 3, Slieve Croob; M40L, 8.1km + 465m. Open fellside with lots of climb - hard work for tired legs! My lack of training was very telling; it was all I could do to maintain a steady plod. The final big climb, up to #16, was brutally hard.

Saying that, I only made about 3 minutes of mistakes in total, so I was reasonably pleased with my run. And, it was warm and pleasant. No complaints.

Running warm up/down 12:00 [2] 1.6 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Inov8 O-Roc 350

Jog to the start - somewhat longer than the 1km advertised!
10 AM

Orienteering race 1:27:41 intensity: (12 @1) + (2:29 @2) + (22:25 @3) + (1:02:03 @4) + (32 @5) 11.06 km (7:56 / km) +250m 7:07 / km

JK Day 1, Tyrella South M40L: 9.3km +250m. This was very hard work! All the dune hills seemed to be very big, and the running was often tough going underfoot. As per usual with complex areas, I really struggled to read the contour detail, and my tried and trusted "straight line" style to the area of the circle, then footer around until I found the control, wasn't the best. Given that, I actually did OK, settling into a reasonable rhythm after fluffing #1 by 3 minutes. I was scrappy on several others but only really fluffed two more, both times when I met Peggy on the course! Very annoyed to throw away 3 minutes on #21, when I was tired and misread my control numbers, running past my control thinking that I was looking for another one, only realising (and returning) about 3 minutes later. Silly.
Tough but good fun. And - there was a beer tent! Top stuff.

Event: JK 2011

3 PM

Orienteering race 15:58 intensity: (9 @1) + (14 @2) + (35 @3) + (10:45 @4) + (4:15 @5) 2.78 km (5:45 / km) +34m 5:25 / km
ahr:160 max:173 shoes: Inov-8 F-Lite 230

JK Sprint, Stranmillis College - M40L, 2.2km +50m. Reasonably happy with my run, only 50s down on Jon and 70s on Roger which, considering my poor prep and hesitant orienteering, wasn't too bad a result. Was OK, if slow, in the first part, but whilst everyone else speeded up in the second half, I slowed down, because it was vaguer and had some of that vegetation stuff! I was much happier running around the buildings.
Good fun, and an enjoyable start to the weekend's proceedings.

Running (Trail) 1:12:01 intensity: (25 @1) + (5:25 @2) + (32:52 @3) + (33:19 @4) 14.22 km (5:04 / km) +254m 4:39 / km
ahr:149 max:164 shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 12

Had to come home early to get the car into the shop - and it was such a lovely sunny day that I had to skive off for a run. Took a nice route out to Ashfield, then back to Laighills, up past Chez Longhurst, over the hill to the pipe bridge, then up the steep path to the Sherrifmuir Road and back home via Dykedale road. Tired a bit - still not 100% - and I appear to have bruised the ball of my left foot somehow. Standing on an ice pack helps!

Note

Sadly ran out of time to go to the final pilates and circuits sesh tonight - last-minute panic birthday shopping seemed rather higher up the priority tree!

Running (Train run) 38:38 intensity: (22 @1) + (58 @2) + (11:36 @3) + (25:42 @4) 8.22 km (4:42 / km) +79m 4:29 / km
ahr:151 max:158 shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 11

First run since last Tuesday, legs a bit out of practice. Still have a sore throat, so I was just looking for an easy pootle. Up through Wilderness Wood and Bellsquarry to Murieston Water, short wander around rarely used tracks, then back via Bellsquarry Wood. Nice and warm out.
