FVO Club run up Dumyat from the uni. Feeling very unfit. Trawled up the hill, thankfully the path was mostly pretty well trodden down; the ridge route down to the reservoir most certainly wasn't, which made for some heavy going and resistance training! My HR was almost as high as on the way up. I felt pooped at the top car park, so it was a struggle to run past the reservoir; I managed to keep up with the decent pace down the road but was completely drained at the end, and didn't even have the energy to jog up the gentle climb past the sports centre to the car park.

It was a lovely day to be out and with fabulous views; wish I was fitter and able to take advantage of the great conditions!

Note

3 more hours of shovelling snow today - 1 hour helping my neighbour dig out his driveway after coming home from 6 weeks in NZ, then after lunch 2 hours clearing over 2ft of the stuff off the flat roof of my double garage, as I was worried about the sheer weight of all that snow. Rough calculation - 1.5 tons. Heavy.

Note

All together now...

"We.... dig dig dig dig dig dig dig in the drive, the whole day through....
We dig dig dig dig dig dig dig that's what we like to do...."

Could be worse. On the way back up from the nursery I chatted to a rather forlorn looking chap who turned out to be our new neighbour, moving into the big house (Provan) today. Except that his removal lorry full of furniture was stuck at the bottom the hill. And his driveway is 100 yards long and under 2 feet of snow. Whoops.

Ventured out in the dark with the grand intention of beating through the snow to the Gathering Stane. When I hit the over-the-knee high stuff at Dykedale, though, I realised just how sh*te my legs are, I could barely walk, never mind run. Beaten, bailed out to the Sherrifmuir road and ran up to the monument, then back down via Pisgah. Sore back from all the shovelling.

Note

Shivering at the train station at 7am, delighted to get a txt from BA to say that the airport was closed again and my flight was cancelled. Hooray!

More shovelling after lunch - about an hour today. Quite enjoying it in a masochistic kind of way.

Note

Over three hours' shovelling snow! Great fun, a real Dunkirk spirit thing going on in the neighbourhood. Unbelievable mounds of the white stuff - it's going to take a long time for those to shift. And, of course, it's snowing again! Getting to France tomorrow is going to be tricky.
