PT day 2. Medium Thistle - 6.2km.
Shorter legs but more technical today; shorter still since I decided that my weak and feeble body wasn't up to a second day of Big Thistling, and I ran down on the Medium.

Very slightly less tough terrain today but still very physical. I actually felt stronger to start than yesterday, and my back felt OK, but for some reason I couldn't have navigated my way out of a paper bag today. I ran right past 2 on the way to 3, only noticing at 3; missed 4; missed another couple and then lost 3 minutes from the final control to the finish, caught in brash. All in all I must have thrown away nearly 15 minutes. Back seized up after finishing, but no grumbles from my ankle - good.

My shoes' uppers have pretty much fallen to bits. This is the second pair of Jalas shoes I've had that have done that - not impressed.

PT Day 1, Balmacara. Big Thistle - 8.8km.
Very rough and tough; I found it extremely challenging from the off. My legs felt dead and my back was in poor shape, so I was pretty poorly prepared, and struggled to do much running. Went over on my R ankle a couple of times, so by the time the final (rather unnecessary) loop came along I was moving very slowly. A bit too much for me in my current state. Nice and sociable, though, and great views when I lifted my head.

Running (Road) 32:29 intensity: (1:04 @1) + (4:32 @2) + (23:38 @3) + (3:15 @4) 6.82 km (4:46 / km) +39m 4:38 / km

Woke up with a nasty stiff back and then promptly sat down for the day, so when I knew that I had to go to B&Q at lunchtime I thought that I'd better try to get off my a**e and jog there. It seemed to help, although since it was more like swimming than running due to the monsoon-like conditions it probably counts as non weight-bearing exercise. Got my heart-rate higher by arguing with B&Q that "I only want a new inner tube for my wheelbarrow, not a new wheel, what do you mean I can't buy an inner tube?" etc etc than I did when actually running. Grrr!

Ran out to Gary & Louise's from home, warm up for the club run.

Running (Trail) 1:00:05 intensity: (1:52 @1) + (30:36 @2) + (15:42 @3) + (9:29 @4) + (2:26 @5) 9.97 km (6:02 / km) +258m 5:20 / km

FVO Posse club run from Hillside of Keir. Great to be back out with the club, good chat catching up with everyone after the long summer break. Nice gentle pace out to Keir r/bout, over the hill to Lecropt nursery than along to the pipe bridge, wee loop up to Glen Rd, then back to the Darn Path. Picked up the pace a bit running up the Pisgah path, then cut down to the golf course and back to base. Tired a bit and stiffened up right at the end, but then I don't run for more than 45 minutes these days! Grand banter over excellent soup (and wine!) afterwards.

Gym (Cross-trainer) 45:01 intensity: (1:35 @1) + (1:13 @2) + (7:42 @3) + (21:52 @4) + (12:39 @5) 9.97 km (4:31 / km)
ahr:156 max:173 slept:6.0 weight:66.7kg (injured)

Still with a sore back, decided not to risk a run - so it was off to the gym to have a good sesh on the cross-trainer. Pushed hard, but HR/effort was too high for the output achieved, must be out of practice. Generated an impressively large ring of sweat about the machine, though, pleased about that.
