Running race (Trail) 46:29 [4] 10.32 km (4:30 / km) +130m 4:14 / km
ahr:156 max:169 shoes: Saucony Grid Jazz Omni

The inaugural running of Ted's Time Trial on trails around his house. A jolly wheeze on a wildy windy day, thankfully without the horizontal rain that was in force when we arrived!

Several courses on offer - the long being about 7km, one long and one short lap, which Grump breezed around in a speedy 30 mins. That was my plan, until Frazer trotted back having run an "Extra Long", two long laps. I set off with a sore knee and twingey back to see how I felt, but with a mind to go for the longer route. I took the first lap pretty steadily and, since my knee had stopped hurting before the end of that lap, I DID go on and run the next one, about a minute and half faster. Fun. Not too crocked afterwards, well - until the evening...

Gym (Cross-trainer) 45:00 [3] 8.0 km (5:38 / km)

Back on the jolly auld cross-trainer. The tedium that beckoned when I accidentally switched off my MP3 player at the start of my 45 mins (and I was jiggered if I was going to STOP to switch it back on again) was averted by the timeous arrival of Mr X, who kindly took up residence on the neighbouring machine and stoically bore my whitterings and ducked the worst of the sweat spray.

Gym (Strength training) 25:00 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (15:00 @2)

Stretching and some upper body machines on easy weights because a) I don't want to knacker my back and get told off by the chiro, and b) I'm a wimp these days anyway!

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Cr*p night's sleep (sore bits everywhere) and feeling decidedly the worse for wear today. The pain all seems to have shifted around. My neck feels awful! Apparently it gets worse before it gets better.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Busy day - in meetings most of the day, then a good 2 hours spent with Sasha the McTimoney voodoo expert working on all my knackered bits. It's mostly in the neck, it seems; her very first comment was "oh, I don't like your neck". I'm quite attached to it, myself. My head isn't on straight, the jaw's a bit wonky, the hips are misaligned... and those are just the good bits. Thankfully her early prognosis that she might not be able to treat me because of the long-term nature of the injuries and the likely stiffness of a runner was rescinded when she discovered that I'm really quite flexible. Apart from in the bits where I should be flexible. Ow.

I was good and even honoured my pledge not to drink (much) at the company night out in Edinburgh, which immediately followed...

Gym (Cardio) 50:00 [3] 9.5 km (5:16 / km)
(injured)

Not quite so crippled as I expected to be this morning, but definitely in a bit of pain, so I decided against the recovery run and went for a recovery gym instead. 40 mins on the cross-trainer and 10 mins rowing.

Intervals intervals 32:11 [5] 5.84 km (5:31 / km)
ahr:159 max:177 shoes: Asics Gel Landreth 3

Finally made it to a track session! Last one of the season. 10km parlauf, six teams keenly contesting for the grand prize of, er, nowt. I was on a crack team, in the middle of the pack - paired with Gary from the Ochils, who was about the same pace as me, so we decided to alternate 400m reps, with me leading off. We came through and held the lead from about lap 8 right the way through to midway through the penultimate lap, when Ben S, Pete and occasional relief John S sneaked through and won in the end by <10s. Good effort. I was pretty pleased to manage to stay in touch, given the complete lack of recent speedwork; my lap times were:
76, 76, 78, 77, 78, 79, 80, 80, 80, 79, 78, 80, 77.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 3.5 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Landreth 3
