Legs very tired! Last chance to do any proper exercise for 10 days or so, though, so no excuses permitted. Felt better for it, earned my leftover curry.

Still badly crippled in my hamstring/back, so just pilates today - no bouncy/impacty stuff, no end-of-season frivolity for me :-(

Gym (Cross-trainer) 30:01 intensity: (2:09 @1) + (2:48 @2) + (8:10 @3) + (14:37 @4) + (2:17 @5) 6.55 km (4:35 / km)
ahr:149 max:169 (injured)

Back on the X-T. Up a level from the norm. Not feeling great today so didn't flog myself.

Running (Treadmill) 10:01 intensity: (21 @1) + (37 @2) + (3:08 @3) + (5:55 @4) 2.14 km (4:41 / km)
ahr:149 max:156 (injured) shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 12

I decided it was about time I tried a short easy run. Given that I don't really seem to be progressing with my back problem I wasn't expecting much, and that pessimism was confirmed within the first minute. Aching hamstring and tweaky LB. Tthat made me frustated and angry, so I bl**dy well was going to continue for the 'whole 10 minutes' I'd planned. Depressing.

Strength training (Gym) 15:00 [1]
(injured)

Stretching and some core exercises.

ahr:154 max:174 (injured)

Really went for it today. Very sore after yesterday's physio, but well rested, so I was able to give it some. All time PB for 45 minutes - by some margin. That's the way to do it! TRIMP 125.4

Ably led by Brian (thx!). Quite flexible once my spine went CRUNCH about 10 mins in.

Gym (Circuits) 20:00 [3]
(injured)

35/5 today. Definitely feeling both a lightweight (out of shape) and a heavyweight (too much shape).

Sunday Dec 11, 2011 #

Note
(injured)

My back problems are really not improving at all. Sore hamstring and shoulders in addition to the core back pain, again, today.

Cycling (Turbo trainer) 15:00 [4] 11.5 km (46.0 kph)
(injured)

I only had 10 minutes before heading out for my works Xmas do, so had to hobble very quickly down to the train station after grabbing five minutes too many on the TT! Interval session to partially make up for the limited time.

Gym (Cross-trainer) 20:02 intensity: (36 @1) + (1:28 @2) + (1:55 @3) + (8:21 @4) + (7:42 @5) 4.4 km (4:33 / km)
ahr:157 max:171 (injured)

First time in the office this week, and first time I've felt well enough to train. Livi gym. On the cross-trainer again. Gave it some welly. Still a bit coughy but was rewarded with a "1st place" in the gym's X-T rankings for the month. Does noone else actually sweat in the gym? TRIMP 69.7

Gym (Cardio) 15:01 intensity: (11 @1) + (30 @2) + (1:47 @3) + (12:33 @4) 3.0 km (5:00 / km)
ahr:155 max:162 (injured)

So, not a cross-trainer, a "Vario". Which is sort of like a cross-trainer but also does elliptical / step / vario. And looks really silly. It's supposed to be more like running but in reality you can't move your legs anywhere nearly as fast as on an X-T. It's more like walking animatedly through treacle. Anyway... another "1st" in the gym's rankings for the month. TRIMP 32.0

Had to go and look the machine up on the Technogym website. Apparently John Lewis sells them, a snip at £10,800. Think I'll just stick to borrowing the gym's one...

Strength training (Gym) 10:00 [1]
(injured)

Stretching, core and 'bells

ahr:129 max:141 (injured) (sick)

Easy/steady spin, just a wee one to keep the insanity at bay - sore throat and feeling a bit grotty. TRIMP 41.1

Note

A day of chores and sorting out / emptying the loft. Tweaked my back. Cold definitely setting in, hmmm

Livingston gym, first time in ages. Very hard work - different machine, but legs tired from yesterday and also coming down with a bit of a cold. Achoo. TRIMP 73.9

Cycling (Turbo trainer) 20:00 [3] 10.77 km (32.3 kph)
ahr:140 max:145 (injured)

Cooled down on the exercise bike

Gym (Cross-trainer) 45:00 intensity: (1:08 @1) + (1:17 @2) + (10:55 @3) + (27:38 @4) + (4:02 @5) 9.84 km (4:34 / km)
ahr:153 max:170 (injured)

I've been a bit despondent and de-motivated the few days, fed up with the slow progress of my recovery from injury. I couldn't face trudging to the gym, denied the opportunity to go out and play in all that lovely, wild, wintry weather. I pulled myself together today, though, and feel much better for it.

Push hard, and had a really good workout. TRIMP 117.6
