Note
(sick)

Woo, shouldn't have cycled yesterday, feeling really ropey since yesterday evening. Stinker headache and sore throat all day again today. Revived slightly by some fresh air and gentle jogging when helping at the school running club.

Cycling (Road) 1:43:19 intensity: (21:13 @0) + (25:50 @1) + (37:40 @2) + (18:26 @3) + (10 @4) 38.27 km (22.2 kph) +397m

Glorious day, and got persuaded out for a cycle by young Mr Stanwix. After a quick ogle at his flash pad at Glassingall, headed out for the Braco-GL-Muir loop. Was taking it very easy and feeling a little better than expected, so changed plans at Braco and extended the route to include Blackford. Used the farm track to avoid the 1km along the A9 - why haven't I been doing this for years? - then straight into a pretty fair headwind all the way back over the Muir. Worked as hard as I wanted to, still very low on energy. Grand chat all the way. Must get Rhys out for a couple of beers with the rest of the Dunblane crew.

Cycling (Road) 45:25 intensity: (1:04 @0) + (2:47 @1) + (20:01 @2) + (19:29 @3) + (2:04 @4) 19.54 km (25.8 kph) +152m
ahr:138 max:158 (sick) shoes: Specialized Globe Vienna Disc

No pilates tonight - donating blood. Lunchtime cycle instead, in the sunshine - very easy pace as still full of the cold. Coughed and spluttered out & back along the Kinbuck-Braco road, turning at the high point. HR still elevated, and still completely lacking in energy. Enjoyed the fresh air! TRIMP 76.7.

PS Turned away by the ScotBlood team for the first time ever, on the grounds of being too ill! Told I should be in bed. Where are those jim-jams?

Orienteering race 57:12 [3] *** 6.24 km (9:10 / km) +190m 7:57 / km
(injured) (sick) shoes: VJ Integrator 2017 dobs

SOL 1 Birsemore. M45L: 5.4km +150m. Full of the cold so took this at a very easy pace. Was flustered by being late to my start and blew #1 by ca. 3 minutes, but was pretty solid after that; just slow. Well down on Jase's 45 minute winning time. Wasn't too bothered by the cold when on the course but felt pretty rough afterwards, and the sinuses filled up, so Beccy had to drive home as I was rather spacey!
L knee a bit swollen by the time we got home

Running 57:11 [3] 6.14 km (9:18 / km) +165m 8:12 / km

Note
(injured) (sick)

No BNOC for me. Feeling dreadful. Managed to drive up the road, but by the time it came to go to the event the pressure in my head was making me dizzy - like wearing massively over-strength specs. Shivering too. Bums.

Friday Feb 22, 2019 #

Note
(injured) (sick)

To add illness to injury - I woke up stuffed full of the cold, perhaps partly explaining yesterday's very high HR.

ahr:163 max:177 shoes: Salomon Speedtrak 2017

Gathering stane. Make or break to see if I can run this weekend. Knees OK but not great after. Mostly, I just felt like a lumbering lump of lard. TRIMP 98.2.

Akavas gorge circular walk with the kids. Spectactular in the gorge, but a long way for little legs, and particularly hard work scrambling over rocks and through the river. Finished 10 mins after sun set - all rather pooped.

Night-O: Falkirk Wheel. Last-minute stand-in for Beccy. Happy she'd only entered the Short course - bombed around in a decent time and didn't do too much damage to my knees. Well, I hope not, anyway. TRIMP 81.9.

SOUL 1 / ESOC Sprint-O / Scottish Sprint Orienteering Champs at North Uphall. Or, in my case, the Scottish Jog O Champs, as I was just jogging around very tentatively trying not to hurt my knee. Knee lift? Knee drag, more like. Succeeded in the slow pace / no injury goal, but failed in the "clean navigation" goal, as I got confused 2 controls from the end when the line from #17-#18 crossed the line from #6-#7 and I dumped 80s on a 20 second control. Idiot!
Thankfully Jamie upheld the family honour and totally smashed his race, winning the M12 class by nearly two minutes. Impressed Dad. TRIMP 49.1.

Orienteering 18:29 intensity: (20 @0) + (21 @1) + (34 @2) + (34 @3) + (8:35 @4) + (8:05 @5) *** 3.49 km (5:18 / km) +28m 5:06 / km
ahr:159 max:179 (injured) shoes: Hoka Mafate 4

Race 2 of the SOUL / ESOC Sprint Champs, on South Uphall. Encouraged by the lack of knee implosion in race 1, I tried a little harder in this race, although I'd still just have called it a jog - and as a result was only 2 minutes down, not 5. Really (really!) chuffed to not have beggared my knee today. Think I'll have to stay off terrain for a bit, though.
Jamie smashed it again, winning the course by >30s despite a 30s error. Time to hand over the family compass, I think. TRIMP 51.4.

Running (Trail run) 59:13 [2] 8.01 km (7:24 / km) +283m 6:17 / km
(injured) shoes: Hoka Mafate 4

FVO club activity day run from Cambusbarron. Meant to be an easy tootle so as not to take anything out of my legs prior to the Scottish Night Champs tonight, and it was that - nice and easy. Unfortunately my right knee started to hurt after 35-40 minutes, and by the end it was clear that I wasn't going to be running tonight after all. Stupid thing. It feels as if I've wrenched the ligaments somehow. Really disappointed not to be able to night O tonight and not sure how to get it fixed before the British Nights in just three weekends' time, given that I'm away for a week in the middle. Bums.
