Orienteering 1:20:31 [4] 10.0 km (8:03 / km) +350m 6:51 / km

WP A-meet (Long). My sole goal for this race was to beat Ali. After getting scalped at Billygoat, I did not care if I was first or 10th, as long as I finished ahead of her. And I think this helped for when I was crawling uphill to #5 thinking that I couldn't do this any more, I immediately thought that Ali probably just ran this thing up and I had to do better than my slow crawl. I had a quick chat with PG at the start but my focus didn't wader. I started well, always looking for things ahead of me and moving ok. Then really messed up #4, I had a decent route, simplifying it to just four pivot points. And as I got into the circle, I got confused by extra few boulders and a weird angle of things and then spotted a bag under a boulder just a bit higher of where I expected mine to be. Ran up checked it out, not mine. Went down again and raked the hill a bit further to find "my" rock with a bag on it. Not happy, I started to pick up the pace and made a mental note to be extra careful in a circle on the following legs. Caught up to Jeff Teutsch at #10 and got away on a long leg to #11. Then caught up to Wyatt on #16 and again dialed up the pace as we moved to a flatter terrain. Finished strong feeling happy about my race after all. Later learned that I did manage to beat Ali. So happy about that. As a bonus, managed to collect Eric and Will's scalps in the process, so feel happy about that too. Revenge is sweet :)

Orienteering 35:08 [5] 4.4 km (7:59 / km) +190m 6:34 / km

WP A-meet (Middle). A decent race though not without flaws. Started out a bit aggressively, and rushed out of the 1st control to the left instead of to the right of the marsh, so my route ended up being a big S. But executed well, and caught up to Greg, who started 2 min. in front of me. Then was bailed out at #5 as I was just a bit to the left of a small spur, as Nick, Greg, and Sergei F. zoomed down to the control which was slightly misplaced on an unmapped other smaller spur. Then took the lead and I and Nick got away from Greg and Sergei F. on the way down to #8. I opened a bit of a gap between myself and Nick a bit later, but got caught off guard at #10, which was really tacked away and I just ran past it and had to make a small loop around just to come back to the same spot where I spotted the bag. After #11, Nick had a better stream crossing and moved really well across the rocky re-entrant on the way to #12 but I decided to climb earlier as he went down around the big cliff. I arrived to the control just ahead of him. Then up up for a pair of small legs and we started descending towards #15 and I had a better bearing spiking the bag at a small stream and then really picked up the pace towards #16 and then on longish leg to #17. Finished alone, feeling mostly ok with just a slight tiredness in my quads.
