Note
(rest day)

I feel like I need a few resting days. Probably will do a bit of o/running in the weekend in Joensuu where I'll help KR people organize the WOC selection races. Next week I'll start proper training for the half marathon.

4 PM

Orienteering (Venlojen viesti) 1:08:30 [4] 8.6 km (7:58 / km)

4th leg in HS2 (Päivi, Helena, Minna) went out as 119th and the final position of our team was 124th.
191/1141. +19:08 (Tove Alexandersson)

In the first bush I got hit pretty hard by a branch and my right contact lens tore. I didn't remove it since I could still see ok with it, but it was pretty uncomfortable and my vision got a bit blurred because of the tear fluid. I was still trying to concentrate well (I was running alone), but made a small mistake to #3. After #4 I suddenly sank into mud (there was mud up to my waist) and after that I was feeling pretty muddy for a while (I was trying to clean my emit card/hand and the map and pulling my not so white o-trousers up because I felt like they were dropping). In some point I got rid of the contact lens for good. I didn't make any real mistakes in the difficult back loop but some teams passed me when I took a wrong track for a while. I was able to follow that train for a while after the hill, but I was too slow and soon I was alone again. I got a bit confused at #16 and lost maybe 20-30 secs there. I was also a bit unsure after leaving that control. The rest was pretty much just running and I tried to speed up but I still felt slow. A few teams passed me in the last bush and I passed a couple of those teams in the finish sprint.

I'm feeling pretty disappointed, mostly because I simply was too slow. Ok, there was that misfortune with the contact lens and the mud and I was running mostly alone, but still, I should have been faster. I just could't get into the right mood today and was missing that last gear. Just wasn't my day, I guess.

5 PM

Running warm up/down 13:00 [1] 2.0 km (6:30 / km)

8' before start and 5' between first and second loop.

Orienteering 20:00 [4] 2.65 km (7:33 / km)

I can't complain. Coach planned the course, drove me to Kasavuori, followed the training in the forest and gave some feedback afterwards. Really good Jukola preparation, I'd say. A bit of everything (fast and slower terrain, route choice, compass, easy and difficult controls, flat and hilly) like it will be in Jukola.

First loop was a bit faster and simulated the faster parts of the Jukola terrain.

Orienteering 25:00 [3] 2.6 km (9:37 / km)

Second loop was a bit slower and more difficult orienteering in the hilly part of the terrain.

Orienteering 17:00 [2] 1.56 km (10:54 / km)

Some extra compass training in the end!

All in all the training went well. I'm now ready for Saturday! :)
