Nostalgia Sunday with a lap of the old CastleCove/MiddleCove loop, my staple run when I lived with the folks in CastleCove many moons ago. (with a bonus bit as I ran over there from Killarney).
The human mind is an impressive thing - 25 years have passed but the splits along the route - essential for pace tracking in the pre GPS days were still in there fresh. Pretty happy to be able to get round the loop in under an hour with that level of effort. Don't have the top end of those days, but reckon the effort to run at 4:30min/km isn't much different.
Otherwise everything seemed pretty much the same - although spotify on an iphone is a step up from the old mini portable radio that faded in and out of reception as one ran.
Pyrmont beer stairs with Bart & Ondrej. The legs feeling pretty heavy now after a couple of beach runs and stair sessions in the one week. Fatigue offset by the absurdly nice day to be running around outside.
Went for the Balter XPA at Quarryman's before running back to the office. Fark me that's a nice drop. Made it back to the office just in time for the next meeting. Cheerful & slightly pissed.
Lunchy wuth Bull & Bart - who worked me over with the classic 1-2 tag team.
First up was 10 Moo stair reps with Bull setting a sharp pace (8:30 for me). We then ran back via the forshore around to the finger wharves with Bart setting a nice tempo.
End result - my legs were smashed, and reminded that my recent running tempo around wharves is good for speed but doesnt do much for one's stair climbing ability.
A car pool juggle meant an extra gym drop-off for me, the upside being a bonus beach run.
Started from Dee Why this time down the coast to Manly. Caught the bush trail section from Dee Why to Curly at dusk and it was freaking beautiful. Just a lovely calm evening with very clear air rocking a sunset overgentle waves.
Tuesday evening beach run at Narrabeen. Another dark, moonless night with the highest tide I can remember at this time of year - the ocean pool was submerged and beach almost under in places. Shoeless and shirtless made for a nice au naturelle vibe.
Mediium tempo up the beach, and then 5 *3min efforts on the way home.
Another upbeat 5k around the wharves in about 19:30 this time. Main takeaway is that the Suunto seems to struggle for consistency in the first couple of km. It seemed odd that the 2km was 20sec slower than the first and the third (I was going the same speed) - confirmed by the 'finish' point having moved 100m since last time.
Looking at the plots online I can see a variation of more than 100m for the 2km point on my loop - or 5% error margin.
