These shoes need retiring and I probably do too.

Course checking and testing of my MapRun setting abilities. The MapRun part seemed OK. Used the G version on my watch which meant I theoretically should not need to carry the phone around :) A couple of the control sites were a bit dodgy and I really mucked up a couple of times. Once right after I thought I've finally got this inside out hill/gully system sorted!

Beautiful afternoon outside after a couple of dire days.

Red Hill Wednesday event. Pretty good course. Started wrong direction, not really understanding where the triangle was and ran up the wrong gully. Lost a bit of time on9 climbing a fence unnecessarily (twice! -there was a gate, plus I never needed to cross it). Also lost time on 11 (dodgy control placement) and 12 (uncertain whether 11 was in the right spot - it wasn’t). Did not punch controls. Practicing good flow just touching the flags was good training I think.

Little Black Mt loop with Nat. We left just as the fog lifted, so chilly but warmed up nicely by the end.

Wow. Tuggeranong Hill =tough! I walked about 80% of today. Not because it was steep (it was!) but so green and treacherous underfoot. It was all I could do sometimes to stay upright, making forward progress a bonus. A few bingo controls slowed me down as well, but I got most of those. Hesitant on 1 and 2, a bit left on 3 but pulled up in time, 4 good, 5 a physical challenge, 6 very physical and despite trying to tend upwards I was still very low when I got to near the control, 7 fine I thought I’d be able to run it but despite being more open to footing had me scared, 8 ok, I ran some of this leg !, 9 was ok navigationally but the white I headed for was littered with fallen timber so I had to deviate through the light green... nearly trod in a dead fox trying to follow an animal track through, then came upon a wall of prickle green, could not go back (fox) so had to channel Willy Kulmann at Walyunga to clamber over that with no feet on the ground, 10 I pulled up early and lost 3 minutes getting myself sorted, 11 was looking early again but got it fine, 12 was left, 13 high, and ok from there through to the finish (finally flatter and less rocky). It’s a long time since I wished for ankle braces, they would have been helpful today! Fog lifted as we got into the car to co e home. It was eerie out there, quiet and by myself in fog most of the way! Ran with gloves after suffering from numb fingers yesterday. A first time for everything and great choice.

Ankle was sore all morning but all soreness evaporated during this run! Amazing.

Went OK , a few slow bits up hill, but tried quite well and when Kathie Dent caught me at 16 I tried to stay with her. She was in sight at the finish, mainly due to my slightly straighter routes paying off :). But then I recorded an MP - did not punch the gate control? I have no recollections. I know I went there, I know I knew what 15 was on when they said I had a problem on that control, but did I punch without checking a beep? No idea, too focussed keeping moving! Did not appear to happen with anyone else.

A quick outing by the lake during swimming. Nearly didn't make it as was waylaid by work and then feared it was too late to get back, but I decided not to cross the bridges and just do a small loop. Lucky, as it was beautiful by the water just after sunset and I then had to pull up on 4 km due to tightening left calf. If had seized up for the drive home and I had trouble using the clutch, then by the time we ventured out again for gymnastics the whole thing had transformed into a sore ankle which ended up bothering me all night and before running in the morning. WTH?

Despite the troubles, quite impressed by my speed (compared to recent and not so recent form).
