Orienteering race (forest) 42:50 [4] 5.8 km (7:23 / km)
ahr:169 max:177 shoes: walsh pb trainer

OK Södertörn middle, ÖM8 4.9km (8/58)

An ok run, good to begin with but started to rush a little once running with another guy I had caught up. Significant errors on 9, 13 and 14, smaller ones on 10 and 11.

Felt fine physically. It seems I have a greater HR range now, Garmin Connect says I spent over 8 minutes of today's course in zone 5, hmm. My trail run on Friday was similar too, over 10minutes in zone 5 with a max of 183!?

Before I start running it is lower too, quickly down to low 50s if I stand still. It could be maybe a little because I am fitter but probably mostly because I don't have nicotine in the blood all day and every day anymore. Didn't realise it made that much of a difference! Oops.

Bought a pair of Walsh from CompassPoint in the Lakes, half price. My socks felt like they were a bit slidy inside, will have to do them up a bit tighter next time. Anyway they will have to do for now, the grip on one of my Mudclaws is a bit broken and needs some Shoe Goo or something. Still finding it difficult to find a long-term replacement for Adidas Swoops!

Note

300/1000 days.

Well the last month has been a little crazy. The family of five camping at the O-Ringen didn't go anywhere near as smoothly as last year, regardless of the comparable lack of rain. Then I decided not to take any snus with me on our 17 day holiday to England - no assisting patches or gum or anything like that, hardcore, cold-turkey style. It does appear to have been worth it however, I've been back in Sweden almost a week and haven't started again plus it really does seem like my heart is happier.

Performances at the multi-days went similarly to last year, similar abundance of technically poor moments, similar results overall. Similar glimpses of promise/potential too, the middle distance at the O-Ringen and the last day in the Lakes at Graythwaite. I do seem get the more difficult stuff right and make my mistakes on the easier legs/controls which is a positive I guess, easier to fix than vice versa.

My left-side problems have not completely cleared up but they are better to the point where I can run on trails again now. It's probably time to start building up the conditioning work for next Winter and then maybe next Spring my body will actually cope with interval training.

Goal-wise I'm going to stick with the ranking list. Last year I tried to halve my score down to 24 and even though I didn't get close to that I don't think it was stupidly unrealistic. I could have done things much better and as long as I learn from this first year there is no reason why I shouldn't aim high again. I will move over from the main ranking list to the elite-specific one however as it is a better system for making comparisons. Only H21 count for this but unlike last year I'm not going to have any problems running H21 long distance events this season. So the goal is to halve my current score, 34.58 down to 17.29.

I can't remember enjoying a trail run this much. It feels like it has been ages since I've run like this, pain-free, easy. Really enjoyed myself.
