Orienteering race (Forest) 2:16:45 [2]
shoes: adidas swoop 2 - new pair

JK long. Started off casual, hoping to maintain the pace to the end - didn't happen. I also made some pretty questionable route choices. My first big mistake was the moorland control number 16. Had a pretty good section in the technical, pokey branch stuff before it apart from number 10 where I missed the obvious around the path route. When I got out into the moorland I dropped my guard and drifted much too far North. Started getting tired after this - wandering around not planning anything. Ran through all the dense forest and marsh to 18, completely overshot 19 and got very lost on 21. 25 was comedy - I was far too high up the slope and after some wandering around stood still and wished it was all a bad dream. Felt properly ill after finishing.

Orienteering race (Forest) 43:00 [3]
shoes: adidas swoop 2 - new pair

JK middle. Started off badly with a miss on the 1st but corrected quickly so not much damage done. Ran the next 4 pretty much perfect picking up my 2min man Ian Webb on the way but 6 didn't make much sense to me. Very hesitant into that one. Tried to lose Ian towards 7 but ran up a hill I didn't need to and punched at the same time. Then, towards 8 all my speed just went and I was pretty much ruined from there to the end, every hill seemed a massive effort and sticking with Ian was hard work. My cold was certainly worse after the sprint yesterday but still not in the chest.

Happy to look at Winsplits and see that the default settings considered none of my leg times as a mistake - I was hoping for that. I may still make big mistakes in Sweden but I'd like to think that when I come back to the UK everything becomes easier.

Orienteering race (Parkland/Urban/Scrub) 19:30 [4]
shoes: adidas swoop 2 - new pair

JK sprint. I thought I was going quite fast in the early part of the race but even on the controls I was finding well I was quite slow in comparison to most. Around half-way I felt myself slowing, probably more to do with being too heavy than my slight cold.

An enjoyable race - changed my mind at the last minute in terms of footwear. Deffo a good decision and well happy to find that one of the three last ever remaining pairs of Swoops that Ultrasport were selling was in my size.

Note
(sick)

Well, I guess I should be glad I haven't been ill since September but It's not really fair that back then a cold started the day before the Swedish middle champs and today a cold started the day before the JK. I suppose it could have been a lot worse - just a bunged up nose and a slightly sore throat.
