Orienteering race (Forest) 45:00 [3]
shoes: inov-8 oroc 280

Picked up Dave & Chris from the club hut on the way to the Winter Series event. Started first, a couple mins before Dave.

Pretty sizeable mistakes at 1, 5 and 9, by which point Dave overtook me. I was surprised it took him that long but looking at the splits he made similar sized mistakes and certainly didn't look like he was putting that much effort in physically.

I should have just followed him to 10 - I had identified earlier as the control that might be a problem not having a compass but if I had bothered to look a bit closer there was a path leading almost straight to it. 'The easiest control on the course' Chris suggested :(

I missed it twice. Then ran off towards 11 and got a branch tangled in my glasses. It bent them up and popped out one of the lenses. Looked around in the snow for it for a while then gave up and...

...jogged back to the finish - didn't want to continue without decent sight with that much ice about, reallly didn't want to risk falling on the same spot.

A woman (not an orienteer) who saw me looking for the lens started helping me look. Anyway it turned out that she continued looking after I gave up, found it and then stopped another orienteer and asked him to give it to me, which he did in the changing rooms. Thanks, anonymous woman... my glasses live!

Running (Terrain) 1:05:00 [3]
shoes: inov-8 oroc 280

After some food shopping/eating and stopping off at home for some contact lenses we headed out over to Tyreso for some more training. I gave Dave and Chris a map each with the same course and just followed them as they took it in turns. I did have a map myself and I did intend on following what they were doing but in truth I found the pace too high and couldn't really keep up. Proper tired.

Running long (XC/Terrain) 1:55:15 [2]
shoes: inov-8 oroc 280

Training with Soders again. Good turnout today, lots of victims. Easy to start with and increased the effiort gradually as the group got smaller. I was determined to keep up with the fast guys at the end but by 105mins I could run up hills no more. They only had to loop back for me once though.

No problems with the hip/arse but it is still pretty swollen and very colourful.

Orienteering race (Forest) 40:45 [4] 6.1 km (6:41 / km)
shoes: inov-8 oroc 280

LL event - borrowed Nick's spare compass again. Full race effort like last week. Unlike last week started 2 minutes behind Nick and we saw each other lots...

Long leg to 1 and I punched just behind him - a combination of Nick not having spikes (a very brave move what with the serious amounts of ice everywhere) and my slightly better route choice. We ran togetherish until 6 where he pulled away from me up on a climb. Then I completely stacked it on the way to 7 and hurt myself quite badly - lots of swelling and bruising. I would normally take a photo and publish the damage but it's just too near my arse for that.

Was scrappy on both 7 and 8 in the circle and jumped over a couple of fences I didn't need to en route to 9 but nailed the rest and by the last I was back with Nick.

Quite happy with that. Some fast guy turned up and did 31mins but if I lose the JK middle by 9mins I won't be disappointed.
