Orienteering race (Forest) 1:19:30 [2] 8.0 km (9:56 / km)
shoes: inov-8 oroc 280

Winter series event. Lovely snowy forest - we've had the first proper snowfall of the Winter and it was actually snowing while I was running which was nice. Still not enough of it on the forest floor to make progress more difficult.

Bit scrappy over the first couple and I lost a minute on 3 with a much too safe route choice and a little hesitation in the circle but then followed a good section with no significant errors until 13. Spent 2-3 mins wandering around on the top of a vague hill looking for an elongated hilltop with a boulder next to it. The one with the control on it was the 3rd I had found. Difficult without a compass that one.

Got a bit stuck in the green to 17 and then lost another minute searching too early. 18 missed a much better path route choice, made a comedy error on 19 going to the wrong end of another elongated hilltop - nothing to do with not having a compass, more getting left and right mixed up. Scrappy on 21.

So a great first half, but lost around 5 minutes in the second half. I was getting tired. GG beat me by 23mins on Wed over 5.6km and by 25mins today over 8km so much better all in all.

Running long (XC/Terrain) 1:42:00 [2]
shoes: inov-8 oroc 280

Training with Elisabeth's club again. Higher average tempo today, lost the couple of older guys after 30mins, then another guy went and did his own thing soon after and that left 4 of us and then I found myself at the back quite a lot. Definitely the most work I've put in running with these guys so far. I was never really breathing hard though - I think what made me struggle a little was the combo of the recent 12km row in my legs and being fairly fat.

Orienteering race (Forest) 57:15 [2] 5.6 km (10:13 / km)
shoes: inov-8 oroc 280

LL event. Made 3 big mistakes and 1 moose-off mistake. I would love to say they were due to having no compass but only 1 was, and not the biggest one - I lost over 5 minutes on number 6. Ok, once I was lost the time I threw away was compounded by having no compass but there was enough detail to get there without. I just didn't concentrate enough.

There are areas with flat vague bits e.g. Sunday where a clean run having no compass is a big ask, and there are areas with lots of big shapes everywhere e.g. today where it should be no problem... shame I couldn't prove that.
