Orienteering race (Forest) 47:00 [4] ***** 5.7 km (8:15 / km)
shoes: adidas swoop 2 - 3rd pair
Thought I might actually write up some stuff on AP, seeing as it is my day off and I actually have some spare time and I'm also feeling slightly more optimistic about orienteering today.
This year hasn't been great for me, a seemingly endless streak of illness and slight injuries since the beginning of March. Over the last couple of months I've had no idea whether I would feel physically good or not when I raced. Felt great on day 6 in Scotland so it's nothing to do with being tired from too much running. The two weeks after Scotland I did a Wed lunchtime LL event and felt awesome both weeks yet at the bigger races at the weekends just felt rubbish, couldn't push and couldn't concentrate on the navigation after the first few controls either.
Last week things got better though. Not saying I had good runs technically (except maybe on Thursday evening where I only lost 3-4mins which is fantastic in comparison to all the other races) but at least I have felt physically good in every race, 6 in a row now :) and am enjoying running and finding controls in the really sexy forest terrain mcuh more as a result.
The Stockholm district champs races last weekend were enjoyable, on very runnable, easy nav areas (for Stockholm). I made approx 10mins of errors on the long and 7mins on the middle. Looking at the splits from the middle I had a good section over the last 5 controls and my positions were between 25th and 35th for those splits when I came 55th overall. So there is potential there but I need to really work on the technical side of my orienteering to iron out these big errors I am making. So without my mistakes I reckon I could have done 32mins but the race was won in 24mins! Just over 5mins/km! Sure I could lose some weight, train more and run clean but I will never be able to do that course in that time, simple as that.
